Just Not ready

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Well the primary alternatives are CBC or CTV.....their reporting is pretty similar and they have a hard left bent.

Other options would be things like Rebel News, which imho, is too biased in favour of the right. However, I like Levant's style of pushing for answers to questions and not tolerating the talking point responses that have nothing to do with the question asked.....but he goes too far sometimes.

Postmedia tends to have a balanced take, again imesho. I have read criticism of both sides of the aisle from that source. Rex Murphy was a brilliant and widely respected author and columnist, he published there. It's good enough for me.

But I have yet to see you suggest an alternative.....

This was a good listen (so far as I still have 20 min left to listen to). Really interesting history of where Canada went wrong economically, and terrifying projection for our country if we don't right the ship ASAP.

Goes back to Mulroney and then the Chretien Liberals where the mistakes were made during free trade agreements. Primarily pointing to the birth of IP economics and Canada's oblivious response to it. While it does not assign blame to the Harper Conservatives (as they don't even really go there at all), the question remains as to why they did not recognize and make changes at that time either.

Well, we all got our wish. Trump's taken a machine gun to NAFTA policy. Unfortunately, Canada is in his sights now.

Congratulations. Hope you have the "correct" colour of skin (as if there is such a thing), because shit's only going to get uglier.

Similar to PP not allowing media in his campaign buses/planes
It has been a long time coming in this digital age. Fewer media have been travelling in recent campaigns. Digital resources to participate will be made available as will a 2-3 day leadtime on locations of events.
Christopher Waddell, a professor emeritus at Carleton University’s journalism school, said it’s “not a total surprise” that a party has chosen not to let media on its plane.

He said this move “has been coming for a while” as the size of the media entourage following the leader has been getting smaller.

Waddell said the situation creates an “interesting opportunity” for the media to spend less time following the leaders and more time talking to voters. He said reporters can arrive at an event early and stay later to get reactions from the public.

The situation creates an "interesting opportunity" for political parties to control their own narrative better. Tell better lies. For every party.

So, who tells the prettiest lies is pretty much who will win. Not who is most fit for office and leadership. Same as it ever was.

Sorry, I can't speak any louder. I can underline it, if you'd like. But the song remains the same.

There's your proof and pudding. If you want that situation to get worse, go ahead vote in Lil PP. But those people praying will be the first to go, with a kind but stern "don't let the door hit you on the way out". And then they'll find a new, more terrifying but defenseless enemy.

I for one, don't feel sorry for these people. If you are stupid enough to get involved with drugs in China, you deserve whatever comes your way.

Yeah. I still have no idea what you assigning of blame has to do with the link and podcast I posted. Clearly you didn’t listen to it.

Well I dunno BCE.....China should be worried. After all, Canada has unsurpassed convening power. Just ask Chrytia Freeland.

We're a fucking toothless cat with bad arthritis. Joly should STFU. Those people were DUAL citizens, they probably came here as criminals and obtained Canadian citizenship and then went back and got busted. China executed their own criminal citizens and the CBC media is trying to make a big show of their Liberal masters chest thumping and grandstanding.

Freeland is a fucking idiot and the fact she threw her hat into the pile straight-faced and wasn't laughed out the fucking Commons for doing so shows how broken the system is.

Who was paying the $350K for Freeland, and Gould?

The Liberal Party? The same folks who paid the millions to Carney? Thousands of 14yr olds pooling their allowance money?

The process was a sham.

You can certainly look at it that way - and perhaps it will continue. However, don't you find it strange that only the Conservatives are going in this direction?

Liberals, Bloc and NDP are all allowing media to travel with their leaders.

Conservatives will provide media/broadcasters with tape of events they aren't able to attend or send camera to. Surely not edited right?

The article you referenced also mentioned that media outlets can spend more time with voters etc., when not out travelling with the leaders, however - from previous elections - most of the opinions/comments from voters via national media came directly from the campaign trail. Being able to talk to voters who are at the events directly.

I'm sure the Cons are likely thinking that it will be mostly local media personalities that are provided to their more remote locations with only 2-3 days notice, for example, the Yukon. Not reporters who cover politics full-time from National outlets - which will certainly lead to a watering down of the actual quality of the news I receive.

Personally, I just feel it doesn't serve your average voter at all, the entire purpose of a campaign is to show voters (not tell them) what your party is about. They are already saying it will be one of the most "transparent" campaigns ever run. By restricting access. The hypocrisy on that.

Read Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail and know why the press travels.

Last campaign, rather than a dedicated reporter following the campaign, most news outlets ran a relay team because no one wanted to do the travel. Trudeau had a second plane for the press, they weren't on his plane.

There may be something nostalgic about the drunken political beat reporter slovenly following along the campaign waiting for that not quite so off the record moment, but the modern reality is micromanaged teleprompter campaigns and 5 second news clips on X and at 6pm.

This is a boon for small news services who simply cannot afford the travel with the campaign by putting them on equal footing with the major media houses.

As Carney and Singh ban small media outlets from events, the conservatives are giving all equal access.
