I lived there in the 90’s, and then again for a couple of years in 2004-8.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 6:49 pmEdmonton actually is a pretty nice city on the south side of the ditch but they're ruining it with the skidtrains pumping bums into the better areas.306NucksFan wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 1:25 pm I have lived in Edmonton for a while now. I love this city TBH.
In the 90’s, it had a kind of blue-collar community vibe which was good, in an honest way. Yeah, the LRTs and the stations could sometimes be a zoo, and Chinatown was sketchy AF, but I liked it.
Come back, and it’s gone cold. Everybody just there to make their money and spend it, and fuck anyone else. Just not the same place.
But don’t get me started about their fans when they’re winning - same as it ever was.

It really does have a great system of parks, trails and green space all through the river valley as well as the ravines.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 7:31 pmStopped reading. You lost any credibility you ever had, Cousin. But this is exactly why this thread was created.
It's the sketchoids meth freaks lurking in those bushes that make it not very nice.

Edmonton, just like Calgary is great, except for the people, climate, crime, meth heads, traffic, etc.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 7:51 pmIt really does have a great system of parks, trails and green space all through the river valley as well as the ravines.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 7:31 pmStopped reading. In other words, not places I would want to live. Yeah I know - the climate here in Olds is about the same, but everything else is great.

Yeah, that's one of the first things my wife said when we moved here - lots of retired people. I'm in a new area and it is at least 80% retired people, including many retired farmers and people from other provinces such as BC and Ontario. So, I fit right inCousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 12:57 pm Whenever I am in Olds I see a lot of old people and think... did they come for the name? Like a geriatric batman beacon?
Next time you're down here, we should go for a beer
