I would say 'No' too. Canucks have traded away too many 1st lately, need those picks to keep the cupboard somewhat full. Also, who replaces Hronek as top 4 RD? Is there anyone in the UFA market that could replace him and not come at a stupid price tag?

I think the plan would be to temporarily replace Hronek with one of the RHS UFA dmen... like Tanev

... while we wait upon the kids.

That said, that proposed trade would be a major ripoff of your Vancouver Canucks.

Will be lots of 3rd/4th line guys who are a little bit overpaid available this year, especially from teams like TBay, Dallas and Vegas who either need to sign multiple core players, are already near the cap or both. Allvin has lots of flexibility so he's doing the right thing and waiting to see what happens over the next few weeks - zero reason to overpay right now in trade for a guy like Necas, as you might be able to get an Ehlers, Guentzel or somebody else that will cost less in terms of $$ or acquisition cost.

I personally love this time of year as I'm a huge fan of team building.

Just don't do it - can't cheer for a team I cheer against all season long. They are one of the teams I'm not sure I've ever cheered for and never could.

Speaking of Oiler fans, sounds like Ian Cole is no longer an option. I was at the game where he sniped one in OT, it was just too bad it was into the wrong net! He's replaceable and I'm in full agreement that there's no reason to reach for guys like him. Good vets will be available after July 3rd or 4th so let's sign his replacement then.

Agreed, time to cut 35-yr-old Cole loose.

I've always thought that Ehlers is badly overrated. He's a 2nd line winger at best.....which is nothing to sneeze at, but he's badly inconsistent, and a serious no-show in the playoffs.

He scores at a 0.75 ppg pace in the regular season, but drops off to 0.37 ppg in the playoffs.

More importantly, his 201 goals in 605 regular season games becomes 4 goals in 37 playoff games.

Hard pass.

I agree with you guys, and think Necas could be acquired sending over less. Hronek is more valuable than people give credit for, top 4 RHD come at a premium.

Necas hasn't shown he can be a consistent top line winger, top 6 yes. Which makes them similar in asset levels. Necas likely moreso but not 2 extra prospects and a 1st rounder.

Any 1st in 2025 should be kept until we see how the team fairs in the 2024/25 season. Could be a very valuable chip to have at the deadline if we need it, if we aren't contending then we keep it.

Agreed.

Willander is our only RD with a potential of 1st pairing. We have no one else. Mcward... very maybe.

I like Willander but he's shown nothing to think he's a shoe in to be a #2 D and just needs some time.. we all penciled in Podz in our top 6 for years and that hasn't remotely panned out, as one example.

Let's not trade Hronek unless we absolutely have to, like he refuses to sign long term etc. 34 year old Tanev in that spot should be a plan C or D.

They still need to add. RD like Hronek is worth more than a centre who averages 50 points a season IMHO.

We are selling too low on Hronek, if it wasn’t for the cap situation the 8x8 (which I don’t like) won’t look bad in 4 years with the cap going up $16M.

Agree, the more I think of it, I can't understand why the Canucks would add that much to a move like this.

Should be something like this:

Hronek + B forward prospect
Necks + 1st

Not saying do this trade as I have no idea on what Hronek really wants in contract demands and a lot of my willingness to do a move like this would be linked to his willingness to sign long term in Vancouver.
