The Canucks need to somehow snag 2 picks in the top 10 for 2027.

The centres could all be franchise changers and without question DuPont could be the best Dman we see since Makar.

Yeah he’s pretty damn solid! We’ll see what his transition to Michigan is like this year but he was pretty dominant in the W.

And for sure the Canucks drop as far as they possibly can, again.

I wasn’t really keen on trading Hronek for a first round pick this last draft, but this upcoming draft I’d be a lot more open to it, preferably after Christmas near the TDL. If they could somehow snag DuPont and a true number one centre, they could have most of the parts of their next core in place.

I agree that's the best time to filip what whatever players they want to transform into draft picks. The draft order isn't set, so you don't know exactly what you're getting, but it's when actual players who could help with a playoff run have their highest perceived value relative to draft picks.

And it's possible that Canuck luck wouldn't apply to other teams' draft picks at the lottery.

I don't know how much mentoring young players need, but the Canucks do need to get rid of players posing a danger of elevating their play outside of the top 10 pick range. Hronek is the biggest risk, there, but I am hoping the Demko can stay healthy that long, show some flashes of Peak Demko, and convince some other team that he is The Answer in net for them. I'd love for EP40 to re-bound (and waive) as well, but that seems to me less likely.

Won't the league just factor who controls the Ranger's pick into the equation?

That’s why RJ’s strategy of pushing the pick out half a decade away is so brilliant. By that time, there’s a very good chance Bettman’s memory will be shot and he’ll forget the pick was traded away. He’ll just see where the Rags finished in the standings and mysteriously the lottery balls will roll in New York’s favour. Us in the know will be eagerly waiting to see Gary’s expression change from joy to fury when he’s informed the Canucks actually own the pick. It’s risky, but it’s really the only shot the Canucks ever have of winning a lottery.

By the time Christmas rolls around, management should know who needs to stay for mentorship/leadership purposes and who can be made available. Hopefully the vets they brought in can make some of the more valuable vets they have expendable.
