So the riots in France have been going on for three weeks now, and there are still no casualties.
Not counting the 2 killed? (I get not counting the cardiac arrest -- but what about the capitol officer on Jan 6....). Not counting the officer ran over? (But Charlottesville.... -- oh, I see, Renee Good wasn't endangering the ICE officer's life when she drove into him....)
How about the 1,000+ officers injured, hundreds seriously? Or the thousands of protestors injured, many seriously (losing an eye (rubber bullet), losinf a hand (stun grenade). Serious injuries are typically considered casualties -- though I admit its a word that is most commonly used in war, where a casualty is injury or death (or even illness) that reduces the attacking/defending force, basically taking them off the battlefield.
What's happening in France is quite serious -- the same stuff happened in the US in many cities in the summer of 2020. From my perspective, many of the same dynamics are at play -- a large group of people with grievances protesting, and a smaller group of agitators (it doesn't take many) who wish for confrontation/property destruction, and then a group of opportunistic looters, who act as vultures feeding on the roadkill.
I disagree with my friends who blame it on the the failure of migrants to assimilate, though. Nothing is more French than a riot.
