SOB was a decent player early in. Had enough natural ability to be a regular, obviously brought the toughness, fitness was always suspect.

I wonder why he never reached his potential 🤔

I find it interesting that Billy Geurin say that he was dealing with JR on this one (Huggy trade). Makes sense as it blockbuster lvl.

(Starts around 1:21)

On Huggy, if Makar gets $20M, Huggy should get around $18-$19M. I will be surprised if Billy G can extend him though, it pretty clear where his heart/intent is.

Is it clear? I think its clear that he'd like to play with Jack at some point, and Luke would be cool too (though he's expressed some ambivalence about that since he knows it would be taking away Luke's PPQB job (which its not clear Luke is especially good at)). So we know Jack, we don't know Luke beyond good in theory but then again....) When is that point? ASAP? Or will "when Jack's a FA" be god enough?

But I think its also pretty clear that the guy would like to win. The Devils are in many ways similar to the Canucks from the Bubble Season to the Division Title +1 -- a team that projects more talent than they earn in points, with stretches that make you think they can get it together, which in turn results in a heck of a lot of running it backs after a year of disappointments. Oh, and injuries that are either a string of back luck and small sample sizes, indicative of a rocky relationship with the Hockey Gods, or something wrong with how they train.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the question of whether to extend with the Wild is influenced by how they are playing in the first half of the year. WIll Kaprizov be mopey losing his buddy Zucarello? Is the obvious center depth issue going to be addressed, might Trenin grow considerably? Will this be the year Brodin and Spurgeon lose their effectiveness?

And each will watch the Devils too.

The thing is, there's no way to really know what's going on in his head through press interviews, and what he says about thinking it through and "when he's ready" is as plausible as all of the tea leaf readings.

I keep coming back to Florida. They’ve become such an enticing destination for a variety of legit reasons, and he’s got his homies Brady and Turtle warming up his stall.

Looking at Hughes in Minnesota, I’m wondering if Vancouver doesn’t end up with the best outcome among all of Quit’s ex-teams when all is said and done. :?

Zadorov knows how to stir up drama and shit. He KNEW saying that would have the Vancouver media tying their panties in knots and create drama. He knows that drama surrounding the Canucks will keep them from being relevant for more seasons. He knows that this is oner less team that can stop his dreams of a cup.

He is just playing the game.

As Björklöven played their first SHL game since 2001 after having wandered the desert for 25 years, Phil Di Giuseppe scored the first goal in a 3-0 road win against Djurgården in the Avicii Arena in Stockholm (formally known as Stockholm Globe Arena)! :D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBEXVig3pYk

Nils Åman was playing for Djurgården. No points, but 2 minutes for tripping.

I was standing right next to the flag that is waving above the Green Devils banner at the end of the video.
Went to Stockholm for this game and attended it with a childhood friend who moved there when he was eight.

The chanting you hear after the goal is from the away fans, we basically took over the arena.
Waiting 25 years for your team to get promoted back to the top league is a long time, so a lot of fans wanted to be there for the first game. Hundreds of Björklöven fans even became members of Djurgården in order to get early access to tickets. The away fans section (950 seats) was sold out in less than 15 minutes, and is only the section above the yellow and green banners the fan club brought, so all the people below that, probably twice as many, managed to get tickets that were meant for Djurgården fans. The venue was sold out, 14,100 people and my guess is that probably a third of the spectators were Björklöven fans. I was refreshing my computer frantically as they released the away tickets at 9 am on Aug 21st and managed to get mine at 09.03.

I had a great weekend in Stockholm!

Yeah, I think he can be really useful. 8-)

We basically have two "real" NHL players; Di Giuseppe with 320 NHL games and Lucas Wallmark with 187 in five seasons (mostly Carolina).
We also have a couple with limited NHL experience. Marcus Björk has played 33 games for Columbus and some 60+ games in the AHL.
DiDomenico, who won gold with Canada at the World Juniors in 2009, has played 27 games for Ottawa but spent most of his career in the Swiss National League where he has been a star player. Tristen Robins has played 4 games for San Jose. Reunanen played 4 games for the Rangers.

The big bruising defender we got from North America, Didier, never made it to the NHL despite being drafted by the Canadians, but he is a NCAA and Calder Cup champion with 539 AHL games under his belt and has been captain of his AHL teams (Providence Bruins and Grand Rapid Griffins) for four consecutive years. So I think we have a lot of top level and leadership experience in the troop.

Most players have experience from the SHL, AHL, Swiss or Finnish league, so even though we're a newly promoted team, the players should be able to compete at this level, and judging from the 3-0 win in the season opener - they can.
We kept 13 players from last season, when we were in the second tier league, and have added 12 new ones.
So the team has been strengthened but without losing all continuity.

Cool thing is that both Wallmark and Björk are local kids who started their career playing for Björklöven's youth teams and now have returned.
We have five own products and two more that joined the club in their early teens, so almost own products.
I think that is actually the most of any SHL team. Which is cool. It adds to a strong team culture.

Wallmark scored the game winner in ot in game seven of the Swiss championship final this spring, winning the first league title ever for Fribourg-Gotteron, but came home to sign a six year contract with his childhood team as we were promoted and was named captain of the team. :D
