Seems one could say that about almost any deal at any time. Salaries are always going up and 5 years is a long time.

I interpreted him meaning 5 years ago, he would never give an 8 year contract to a kid with under a full season of games, and a year left in his ECL.

But, 3 offer sheets later (Holloway and Broberg and Carlson), GMs are trading offer sheet risk and breakout season risk against early signing of a kid which stagnates and underperforms risk.

Hughes 129 games vs Zeev's 80 games. Both a year left on their ELC. Not a lot of difference but I get your point, offer sheets have certainly raised the stakes and credit to RJ for recognising that. I'm hoping the low profile and expectations will lead to under-the-radar success.

Hughes skated out of mommy's womb worth 9.6% of the cap. Buium will likely be over paid for a year or 2 at 8.3%. And yeah. Offer sheets have pushed top 10 players from 12% to 18% or the cap. But, if the cap keeps rising, these deals drop to 12% when they expire. I agree on the low profile thing. We will need a few good bridge deals for later bloomers like Podkolzin where they over perform the show me contract.

Choices are choices....

Other Management teams had choices and picked the wrong ones....like signing EP, Lankinen, Boeser, Louis Eriksson or drafting Juloevi or Virtanen as but a few samples.

These fucking guys had a draft plan and succeeded by all reports and made the right choice with Buium irrespective of our thoughts as to how "easy" that was....

Those are positive, albeit baby steps.....

Sure, fair enough, but looking at it from a lever perspective "if I were GM" and those were my choices I would have acted proactively on exactly zero of them.

So no hindsight from me.
