The Sabers would be stupid to pay much for Hellebuyck.
He’s the American Luongo. Wins an Olympic gold on a stacked team but has crumbled in way too many big playoff games. Wrong move for Buffalo at this time.
Alleged deal....

Alleged fall apart...
Sabres wanted Jets 8th o/a added to the goalie return

Wait it out one more season.
Maybe Petey puts up a few more points.
Either way he probably contributes to another high lottery pick.
The Canucks kind of have to thread the needle, there. They want EP40 to have a bit of rebound season, so that he becomes a tradable asset, but we don't want him to contribute to the Canucks winning too many games. Likewise for Demko.
My own dream scenario is that they both come out of gates hot, and the Canucks move them at a point in the season when "players who could you over the top" are more dearly held than draft picks. That way, the Canucks maximize the return on the assets without jeopardizing their shot at 1st overall.
I will be surprised if Demko if plays more than 25 games this year. Ideally he starts playing in the latter half of the year. Goes something like 8-14-3 (with 5 of the W’s coming in shootout marathons) and posts a .925+ SV%. Finishes the season healthy and is the most sought after goaltender in trade at the draft.
I’d like to see Petey hit 65-70 points for the reasons above. He’s now past the age where I see him as being any sort of meaningful contributor to this team on the other end of the rebuild.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

The odds are more than 4:1 for the field in getting 1 OA when finishing last. (And in practice, they are a limit approaching zero of the Flames or Canucks finish last because Hockey Gods). It’s just not good enough odds to worry about whether you are worst or fourth worst. You want the reclamations to happen as well as they can happen and take the sure thing returns. And you want a little bit of success feedback from the “process.”
It also helps if you do not have a president who proclaims it was by design after they traded Hughes because the franchise desired good things, as did the fans. When JR came out with that one I knew then our fate was sealed. You f'ing admit that once you traded Hughes you wanted to tank to get the prize of drafting 1OA. He had to make it sound like all went to plan, his plan with no accountability as to how we got there.

Tracks.
Since exiting a March 9/24 game versus the Jets Thatcher has played in 43/193 games....so actually 22%, much lower than Mëds predicts.
The hope that he will all of a sudden be (and stay) healthy, find his game and garner a high end positive asset return feels a tremendous hope and reach scenario.

I would like to see the returns on both to include an unprotected 1st in 2029-30, with both being traded to teams with expiring windows of contention (Like Edmonton), or other teams 1sts, that they didn't bother to protect because they suddenly fell down the charts (Taranna)..
... I want those top 10 unprotected picks!
.. can you imagine, we have 1st, 3rd, and 5th OA going into 2028.. and ALL 3 spots lose 2, we end up picking 3rd, 5th, and 7th??!?
we can FINALLY hold a record for the most draft positions lost in a single draft!!
The 'Chain of Command' is the chain I am going to beat you with until you understand I am in charge.
