Gentle contact in traffic. Catch a rut. Fall awkwardly. Helmet slips a bit as the chin strap pops loose. Shoulder hits the ice. The audible sharp crack of a puck popping off the defense's stick. A blinding pain behind the left ear as the occipital bone fractures, spraying fragments into the cerebellum. Every goes dark.
Voila. 11.6 in cap room. Prayers answered.
"Prayers answered. Alibi is tight."
The best part, ironically (Cryptically?) this post is in the 'Past Canuck Players' thread
When does training camp, with that shitty summer ice, start?
Also.....3 first round picks..and 25 million cash.
On this day in 1988 #99 was traded to the LA Kings.
Never mind the second half of the '90's, middle of the night debacle that failed epically, it is also "rumoured" that Gretzky was almost a Canuck instead of a King.
The requested return is noted above (a reminder that the Kings package was Gelinas, Carson 3 firsts and 15 million).
Pat Quinn sent Burkie home with some work to do.
Can we make the numbers work?
Our top salary at the time was Barry Pederson at 250K and the high end ticket prices around $30 bucks a seat.
Plus the Griffiths were (allegedly) tight on cash.
Burke came back and the answer was no....even raising ticket prices 5 bucks a seat across the board wouldn't make it happen.

So Gretz became a King....
Gretz tells that story differently.
