What A Planet Rebooted - Stories from the World of EMS

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

75%
Wow - that sucks - can you get a MAID unit to tag along with you?

I should clarify that 75% a little.....

I'd say that 75% of the calls we do are not emergencies that require an ambulance, or they are society-driven situations. Overdoses, rampant homeless drunks, and drive-by callers (Citizen Heroes with a Phone as we call them) who are phoning us for the mildly inebriated individual having a nap on the grass or bench, but didn't even bother to check and see if the person needed anything more than a stint in rehab.

I would say 25% of that 75% are inanities like the two I described.

The reason for the increased need for ambulances is a failing healthcare system and a society that has become both too permissive and too hung up on pseudo moral-ethic grandstanding leading to the responsibility, and ultimately consequence(s), landing on your public service workers (primarily healthcare and law enforcement). And because Field of Dreams was so astute in its observation of humanity ("If you build it, they will come."), the current accepted solution is ultimately self-defeating.....put more ambulances on the road (staffed with individuals who are far inferior in training and aptitude) so that they can pick-up the ever expanding volume of individuals (that don't actually need a hospital visit) and deliver them to the hospital that is already under-staffed and lacking beds.

More services is not the answer. Tailored services that put the onus and responsibility appropriately on individuals is the solution.

Yes, but that involves consulting with the people (like you) who do the work daily, and then thinking outside the box to come up with new solutions.

Not a strong point of any government. Add in that if a new solution is tried, fails, and (OMG) costs some tax money - then the new ideas are locked down for another 10 years.

Maid, sounds a lot like they need their parents for stupid shit like this!

Dealing with tenants we probably deal with many of the same types. Get a "maintenance request" because they were shittered at the bar and lost their keys and FOB and can't get into their condo or the building. Come let me in. At 3am.

Poor Mëds can just ignore his calls.

Some people just cannot adult.

Not sure if you misunderstood or if I’m misunderstanding you…..

1. The MAID unit was referring Medical Assistsnce In Dying.

2. I can’t just ignore calls. Wish I could. (Or was that a typo?)
