We've got random posts popping up about the demise of Sportsnet 650.

Seems they're likely done - shut down (coincidentally?) after Rogers completed their buying of the leaves....

Yeah, they shut down 960 in Calgary also. Fucking Rogers....

Also, for me, who didn't really like or hate the TML, I am now firmly in the "I hate all things Toronto" camp. I hope they never win a cup.

I can understand shutting down AM radio - does anyone still listen? But they could have waited until an alternative was in place.

I listen(ed) to SN650 via streaming to a number of games each year. I would hope that something similar is available when the season starts.

I'm guessing there's still a lot of people who listened to the sports talk during their commutes who will miss this.

They'll all move to online podcasts within a few weeks I'd imagine. I just listen to them as they upload onto Amazon music so if it comes from a footwear studio or a basement on PoCo it doesn't matter.

The nostalgia and accessibility of radio is a big loss though

The owner of the biggest franchise owns the media platform the smaller competing franchises use? And they just reduced fan access in the smaller markets by knocking down their radio platforms the day after completing the 100% ownership purchase of the big franchise?

Nah. They wouldn't do that. There must be some fair competition bylaw in the NHL, or some anti monopoly legislation on the books in Canada that would prevent that...
