Love that these offer sheets are being thrown out there. I’m sure the NHLPA does as well!
The PA probably needs to be careful though. While any union is about representing the overall gains of its membership, it has to consider ALL of its members. In a salary cap world, even a rising one, the more of these monster salaries that go out to stars will mean the smaller slice of the pie the rest (the majority) of the union members are able to get. Every additional million given to a guy like Carlsson is a million less that can be given to some bottom-6 players.

I don't want to watch the NHL become the NBA.

I was thinking this might be our opportunity to swoop in and snag M.MacTavish off them, but then I noticed he's gone already. :(

Two 1st rounders for him. Forget it.... think we gotta keep our picks.

11.6 might be looking pretty good to someone like Pat Verbeek right about now. :D

The Ducks might want McTavish back at this point. But, too late!

The NHL can’t be the NBA. No one player can make an impact on an NHL team like a single player can in basketball.

And really there’s still a ton of money to go around in the NHL. There’s a bunch of teams that spend nowhere near the cap!

I do get what you’re saying but can’t see the NHL getting to NBA type salaries for an individual.

Check what just happened with Jalen Brown being traded from the Celtic to the 76'rs for junk return.

Talented star but making fat to much money on a cap strapped team. He was A guy for the Celtics, but he wasn't the guy.

playoff mvp a year ago after The Guy your his Achilles. Signed a fat deal and a year later is move to a rebuilding team because he costs to much.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I don’t follow the NBA much really so correct me if I’m wrong. But Jaylen’s salary works out to roughly 35% of a teams cap (although it does seem like it’s not a hard cap system like the NHL)? That’s a crazy number even for a sport where I guy can be on the playing surface the whole game!

We have seen any NHL players hitting even the max allowable salary at 20% of the cap yet. And I don’t think we will really unless they change the cap system.

That’s why I’m saying I just don’t see the NHL salaries getting to NBA levels. First we have a system in place to restrict personal salaries to a percentage of the cap, which hasn’t even been approached yet. Even $18m per is about 17% of the cap.

The other aspect is that one player cannot make the same level of difference in the NHL as a single player can in the NBA. You can’t be on the ice the whole game!

Yes I realize goalies can. But even so, we are seeing goalies salaries come anywhere near the 20% either. So even the one player that can play a whole game essentially doesn’t make a big enough difference in a team to warrant a massive salary.

The NHL just has more checks and balances. Formal and informal.

I do think salaries have been a little low for players that do make a substantial impact compared to the cap.

There’s still money to spend out there, I’d be curious to know how much of the total allowable money is spent each year on salaries. IE, if the cap for each team is $104m at 32 team so a total of $3,328,000,000 how much of that is going to players?

The NBA salary cap system is what would be described as soft.

It also has many exclusions including allowances to re-sign your own players if over the cap (nicked as the Bird rights) as well as other exceptions which allow FA signings of certain contract values if over whatever the cap threshold is.

Team are also allowed to sign players for league minimum irrespective of their overall cap status.

I'm not going to bother (or bore y'all) getting into the nitty gritty of the NBA model which would take a post pages and pages long but let it be said that the cap systems between the leagues are dissimilar to say the least.

The Kraken and Shane Wright have officially hit a crossroads and have mutually agreed to part ways.

Kurt Overhardt is working actively to broker a deal for his clients move to a new team.

6' 192 lb RD centre 22 y/o

169GP 36G 42A

Still on entry level at 886K with 3 mill in potential bonuses attached.

RFA next year.

Straight across for EP (as we have discussed previously).

Wright has personality issues that I don't think RJ would touch.

Says who?

Media click baiters or your legit sources?

Interested to know.

A guy being proactive and standing up for himself can be painted as an issue very easily.

He's also but a boy yet.

As well....

So does EP40.

Read today the Canucka are "afraid" to trade him in case he "gets his game back" and they end up with egg on their collective faces.

I really hope that's bullshit.

My favourite headline….

Oilers Finally Have Premiere Goalie In McDavid Era With Andersen.

😂🤣

Mark Spector has to be the dumbest sports writer going.

Andersen was run out of Toronto because goaltending was apparently the problem behind a porous defense. Mark Spector can See Cam Talbot, Mikko Koskinen, Jack Campbell, Stewart Skinner, Tristan Jarry, and Connor Ingram, for local examples of the same.

Andersen has been a good goaltender…..behind teams with a 200-foot, pack mentality, game plan. But, despite his resume, he was then sidelined in favour of a journeyman backup during the SCF.

He’s also going to be 37 when the season starts.

Absolutely insane to think he’s their “premier” answer.

Give him benefit of doubt for being sarcastic.

Can argue he is "premiere" compared to what they've had in the McDavid era.
