Not sure what it was on the ice or off the ice that soured coaching and management on the Hoglander. Manny and RJ know him well enough that they knew what they were trading away, vice new management that comes in with their own semi-informed biases. Hoglander had skill; he just couldn't build on that rookie season. At 25, he was a tweener whose place moving forward was always going to be precarious with the rebuild.

3rd round pick is not a bad return even if he was a 2nd round pick. Time to turn the page on the Benning/Allvin era. Hopefully the Dickless Swede is next and soon.

I like the move - the return is meh, but expected.

He was given chances, and never made the next step here - maybe Nashville?

It frees up a roster spot, sends a message that they're not hanging on to the familiar (just yet).

Guessing the Sedins knew very well what they had in him.

Can’t wait until 2029 to get a third. I guess the third round in 2027 and 2028 is expected to be weak?
Nashville has two pick in the third round in 2027 and 2028, only one in 2029, so the 2029 pick must be more valuable?
Is 2029 a particularly deep draft and RJ is already targeting someone in the third round?

I am a bit disappointed, only because last season was totally destroyed by his high ankle sprain. Those always take 8-12 months to really recover from. He was starting to play better late in the season. The Hogkolzin experiment is now over. Just like the McVertinen experiment. Funny how we can flush away good prospects. I really hope we don't rush our new crop of forward, cuz we need a lot more than a 3rd or a 4th rounder in return for a whole draft.

I don’t mind the return for Hoglander. It’s what he’s worth. Or more than he’s worth. Maybe a new start will help him get back on track, but I think we’ve seen the ceiling and it isn’t that good. Hard to be an offensive player without playmaking (passing), a good shot, or speed. Never was a pk option, wasn’t good on a pp. Liked his motor and compete, bun t he just needed another skill.

Canucks had a great opportunity after his 20 goal season to get real assets for moving him when they created the Sprong roster crunch. Instead they dumped Podz. Bad asset management.

Gallagher to VAN for futures. Has that been posted here.

Would have like to have seen a sweetner. Pretty sure the futures will be a draftee where there’s no expectation of signing or a never-nhl-AHL vet.

But not disappointed to have him with the kids next year. I’m not paying the salary.

50% retention is the sweetener.

(and yes, discussed in the 'old' thread- but good to continue it here)

Gally will be a good fit, I figure. Show the kids how to be a pro, look out for them on the ice. He knows the score, and from his quotes he seems good with it. Better than EastVander.

Half-retained for future considerations. Final year of his contract. A gentleman’s deal if ever there was in this league these days.

As mentioned somewhere, the Canucks will not be qualifying offers to P-O Joseph, Nils Aman, Danila Klimovich, Chase Stillman and Jayden Grubbe.

Look for RJ to be busy signing AHL journeymen and depth guys over the next few days

If Gallagher has an ok season, we can retain another half, and maybe get a 3rd at the trade deadline.

I think the Russian gets a chance in Vancouver either 3rd or 4th line.

Very brave to pencil Chytil in the line up.
