I think everyone is forgetting a simple fact..
Well...not everyone....
donlever wrote: Sun Feb 15, 2026 9:30 am Not sure they're tanking in reality.

The owners are shit.

The team is chasms below NHL legit.

Management have no plan nor theory beyond vacuous dribble and appear to have thrown arms in the air with respect to authentic leadership and quit.

Van isn't tanking.

They are losing.

They are a terrible team, with subpar goaltending, coaching and zero centre ice depth.

As you say, Mgmt. is just using semantics for this incompetency.

Have a bran muffin, this shit too will pass.

I love it when people quote themselves to show they were right.

I try to do that every chance I get :D

Nothing to do with being right.

Has to do with going through the effort of posting and the intel not being read/noticed/included in continuing discussions.

This is my biggest struggle here.

Whether to bother or not.

Buyers remorse Donny? Don't let Tops get you down - this place is awesome, even if the team sucks... it'll come around as the team does.

Conversation around here is always better during the winning times, just gotta hang on until then!

Oh, don't get me wrong....I'm neither down nor going anywhere.

And yes...this place is awesome...I don't just throw $$ at anything and everything as a rule.

I've made some promises to people I care about, both here and not, with respect to posting at the very least and I will abide by that.

I'm just talking about ROI versus effort.

The main reason I wrote the letter to AIG was this site.

Takes a lot of time and effort that.

Not sure what my calculable IRR is on it is all.

Glad to hear it!

As for your IRR, lets ask Tsico. He seems to be the guy about that.

This place can answer all your questions, sometimes with poetry!

Well, I do enjoy quoting myself occasionally for the right reasons :D

EDIT: I'm here in a coffee shop, posting on CC and the old guy at the next table is suddenly blasting Air Supply on the phone speakers for all to hear

Making Love Out Of Nothing At All... like what we do everyday here in the Corner. Jeezus, muzak for monsters indeed.

One of my biggest pet peeves.

It's about that time I play some NWA to drown him out....

Relegation leads to stratification of the middle teams, with the only team movement being at the top and bottom between who wins and who gets relegated. Besides which, unless there's some new kind of revenue-sharing between teams I don't know how the clubs in the relegation zone can make a go of it when there is no guarantee of any broadcast-related revenue in whatever Div 2 league takes shape. It works in other leagues like they have in Europe, but they don't operate with salary caps and player movement is utterly different. I don't see American sports fans going for any changes that smack of Euro influence these days.

If we want to discourage tanking, as others have mentioned, you either weight the odds equally between non-playoff teams or weight them in favor of the mushy middle teams. The more I think about it, the more I think equal weighting of lottery odds might be the best tonic for tanking. What's the point of tanking if it confers you no advantage?
Love the Sport. Love the Team.
