Ok Megs. You’ve convinced me. Hire a wrecking crew and then hire a building crew once the dust has settled and the debris cleared out.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Sadly, I believe Mr Aquilini intends to leave this duo in charge of cleaning up their own mess.
Hughes, Tocchet, Miller, and Horvat are all a bunch of quitters

So much for my feeling of sunny optimism.

It's worked well for Aqua man and his own mess, so may as well keep rolling with it.

I'm fine with turfing these guys now but do think we need someone capable in place for the trade deadline to pick up as many assets that are under 24 and/or high picks in the next 2 drafts.

Yeah but if all moves need to go through him does it even matter who we bring in?

So Ottawa does not have a 1st round pick in 2026. They surrendered that pick as part of the Dadonov trade fiasco with Vegas. So the last place team picks top 3 and 32nd this year. Is that true? Does that mean we already have 3 1st round picks should we finish dead last???
The only HW the Canucks need

Correct, yes. Our 2nd rounder and Minnys 1st will likely both move up 1 depending where Ottawa finishes.

 @ the first part.

I agree with your second point.

I would remind everyone looking to dump Meaty; not only do you have his fights to look forward to, but he can be paired with Myers for a wonderful comedic effect if things ever get boring.

Apparently it would be the first time in franchise history where we would have 3 first round pick (essentially) in a single draft.

I get that it seems foolish to think that the people who created this mess can fix it.
(Unless you're willing to buy that this is an extremely devious case of "managing up" to get the Little Eagles to the point where they will approve a rebuild as long as it's called a hybrid retool...)

But the most important job of management for the next two seasons will be astute drafting. The things that the current group has messed up are asset management and contracts, but I actually haven't hated their drafting so far, from the point view of what else was left on the board when they picked. As for asset management, once it is accepted that the idea is to trade current assets for maximum value now in order to stockpile maximum value for 3 seasons from now, I think they will be able to master that, too. I think they did a decent job of wringing everything that the market would bear from the Hughes trade, for example. With respect to contracts, everyone should either be on an entry-level deal, or traded because their contract is expiring, so they shouldn't be able to do too much harm there either.

Does anyone else have a different take on the current group's drafting record?

I guess I could support demoting Allvin to personnel director and letting him run the draft. Heck, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back Jim Benning in the same role; both did some good work in that area.

Rutherford gets fired into the sun; however, lest he indulge in ass-saving measures. Allvin would need to understand his new, diminished role. Keeping these two hotshots in place is an idea that Mr Aquilini, I suspect, does favour. And it's what we'll probably wind up getting.

Too soon to judge the drafting record of the past 4 years.

Indeed.

We did have 3 of the top 23 in 1990 however.

Made a hiccup or 2 there.
DeLevering since 1999.
