To supplement weaker organizational forward depth we could deal from a position of strength (D and goaltending) as well should the need arise moving forward......

This isn't a terrible position to be in, or at least, it's certainly better than the opposite.

Prospects with a good chance of making the NHL are easier to identify in the draft at forward than at defence, and that fact also means that, in normal trade conditions, a B level defenceman will usually return a B+ or better forward.

On the other hand, it seems to me that it's usually harder to obtain what I would have considered to be full value for a goaltender in a trade. I don't have any theories about why that should be that I find convincing.

When Allvin became obsessed with fixing our defence by using our position of strength at centre to achieve that, in that process he made our centre depth the worst in the league. It’s all fine and dandy if you don’t completely fuck one position to fix another. All they (mgmt) did was move the problem somewhere else. Yippie Ky Yay.

The Horvat flip a pick was fine, the other parts stunk - Beauvillier and Raty. We still had Miller at centre to rely on in Bo’s absence. But trading Miller for a third line centre with a concussion history and flipping the 1st for a defenceman AGAIN? That to me was foolish, and so here we are, with this mess at centre.

But the real wrong (in the end) was not keeping Horvat. The second wrong was not trading Pettersson for that Necas package and the third wrong was trading Miller when his value was at peak levels because ya let a cancer in the room grow for the world to see. And then through all that mess you lose a Jack Adam’s winning coach in the process.

The calamity of errors began with trading Horvat, the centre they should’ve kept. It’s one of the worst strings of trade management I’ve seen in the entire history of this organization. This entire process turned us into a lottery team from a playoff team. What’s worse is we may lose Quinn Hughes because of it.

In fairness, "the rift" was something that should have been able to be dealt with like adults between the two belligerents. Not predicting that both parties involved couldnt man the fuck up and put the team first would be a gamble most GMs might roll on.

In hindsight the right course of action would've been to move both that first off-season after it became untenable and cue the rebuild.

Nobody wanted that nor had the nads to serve that up to the fans. Can't say I blame them really. We had just enjoyed a successful reg season and there was hope.

To many players he ran with have been outspoken about him in a positive fashion.

I like Miller, he means well and wears his heart on his sleeve. Really not sure what to make of the situation and I don’t think they do either.

It’s just unfortunate but it’s up to management to recognize potential problems and to stay ahead of it, it’s what they are paid to do. They made the wrong decisions and let it fester too long.

According to past players and coaches, their timelines on the conflict, this wasn’t something new. It was around when Brad Richardson was a Canuck.

Pettersson is an enigmatic character and it was that enigma that made him special but it was also that enigma that drove team guy - Miller mad. I do believe that Miller chipped away at what made Pettersson special and not realizing the damage he was inflicting because Petey is nowhere near the odd ball excellent hockey player he once was - the Alien.

From what I understand about Petey is he is very private and painfully shy, an introvert, something an extrovert like Miller wouldn’t get.

You referring to Raty? I like Raty, not seeing him as top 2 centre potential like Horvat but more of a solid third line centre. I’m more concerned about our top two centre position.

Your muddying the conversation. I like Raty as a bottom 6 player and like the Hronek flip a pick from that trade. I’m referring to the dismantling of our top 2 centre position, the calamity of errors from it and in hindsight how Horvat was the one we should’ve kept of the three.
