Montreal is looking for a 2nd line centreman as well. Doubt they would create a hole there, by trading Dach - for a winger or defenseman.

They also need to hang on to their draft picks and top prospects.

What I see based on stats:

A young C who hasn't wow'd of late, whose development may have stalled in the shadows of their more celebrated young C's before Bedard then Nazar... his numbers were climbing then they coincidentally plateaued with the role reduction. Forbert had a setback and is week to week.
Allvin says a lack of practice time also a challenge to get these guys.

So internal help is in low supply for the forward group. The addition of the German should help but does nothing to upgrade centre. This is a type of low risk high reward potential. We’ve had our share of reclamation projects that haven’t panned out. We are due, no?
