Good to hear. I am hoping this kid will be a dark horse guy and that we have a potential player there. I would have liked to see him improve his point production in his 2nd yr juniors, but it kinda remained the same. Maybe he'll rack up some points and break some of his season totals this season. Too bad we sent him back already, would have been nice to give him a couple exhibition games.

Yah, gotta like his package of size and potential. HIs point production is kinda meh in juniors as well, but maybe he can put it all together in the next couple years. Hopefully he becomes the next Johan Franzen.

I said it last year. GM by last name, not position. You have a damned good team if you stock up on Petterssons and Hughes's. Add in some Petersons, Pedersons and Jack Quinn and we have an NHL roster no one can announce.

Braeden Cootes appears to be generating some hype. There's general acknowledgement that he needs to get beefier, but his skating and shot are NHL-caliber already according to some reports. He's also shown some playmaking flair. Apparently carries himself like a pro with a noticeable maturity - reminds me of Horvat in that regard.
IMO he would have to beat out Räty for that 3C spot, which would be an intriguing matchup as preseason goes on.
I don't think he's gonna stick more than a couple of games to start the season at best, but it's nice to see a low-key 1st-round pick impress. I think we may have a player here.

He certainly seems to be on track - I don't think there is doubt there is a player there, but what kind? At his size (and projected playing size) - does he have the physical attributes to play in the bottom six? There are questions about his offense - so would he develop enough there to play in the top 6?
And all the talk about making the Canucks out of camp, even for an up to 9 game stint, not likely. Vets are on cruise control right now, when he made Forbort look bad in the scrimmage, it was more likely because Forbort didn't just want to close gap and crush the kid.
My feeling is this kid's path goes through junior, then the AHL to develop the type of player he will be in the NHL. Hopefully a 2nd line centre, or they'll move him to the wing perhaps?

Agreed that even a stretch of games at the beginning of the season would be a stretch. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to Junior for a year and actually sticks in the top 9 next season. I don't think he's that far off, it just depends on how fast he can beef-up.

If Cootes can fill the role Kesler played between 2007-10 as a 3C before he exploded for 40 goals in 10-11 and got people thinking he could be a 2C, that is found money. Under the new CBA, we'll be able to send one 19-year-old down to Abbotsford next season (with some call-ups); I think that is the direction we'll wind up going with Cootes, and it's probably a big reason why he decided to sign a contract now and skip college this year. We will see.
Good points both - 1st / 2nd year Kesler is a great example, certainly skates like him (though again the size)... and being able to move to Abby from OHL as a 19 year old would hopefully accelerate this.
