Stelantis, makers of Dodge Chrysler Jeep, cancels their Canada government sponsored battery plant and moves production of the new Durango out of Ontario and into the US costing Canada 1,500 jobs. No word on how much of the government money was spent on the project to date. This was Trudeau competing against the Biden Build Back Better.
Now we are expected to trust Trudeau to fight off Trump's America First campaign.
Amazon workers at one Quebec Amazon warehouse vote to unionize, Amazon closes all their Quebec warehouses and will rely on 3rd party distribution in Quebec.
Scott Moe of Saskatchewan and Legault of Quebec join with Smith of Alberta saying cutting energy exports to the US in a retaliatory move is off the table.
All major candidates for the Liberal leadership vow to remove the consumer portion of the carbon tax while quietly saying they will have an alternative tax.
The increase in capital gains tax that was announced and implemented by CRA but never made it into law and the legislation died when Parliament was prorogued will be repealed if Freeland (who championed it) is the new leader.
Guilbault, in a kiss of death, has endorsed Carney for leader of the Liberals because Carney is on the same page when it comes to taxing pollution. If you want to watch a weasel squirm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvKis12pbFU . The conservatives have to keep this guy in front of the media.
"Outsider" Carney, who has been advising the Liberals for at least 5 years, is racking up endorsements from all of Trudeau's inner circle who will in term be looking for a return to their cabinet positions.
Fun times.

The day PP was elected as the Party's leader was the day I considered myself as an Independent because in my opinion the choice up until JT's resignation was between dumb and dumber....
I don't care what Party they represent or if they are an "insider" or not, what I care about is who is the best candidate to lead the country today...
PP is a lifer living off the Canadian taxpayer, his Wikipedia page is so short of accomplishments that it has to list his time delivering newspapers as a kid to fill in space...
Contrast that with Carney's who helped guide the country thru the crisis of 2008 with Stephen Harper as our Prime Minister, and Brexit overseas to name 2 of his many, many accomplishments...
And its not just that PP is unqualified, when you look at his Shadow Government it reeks from a lack of skill ...
Not too often we get a chance to elect a leader whose up to the challenges facing the country in the way Carney is..
Hopefully tribal politics doesn't get in the way of him being elected...
Re: Just Not ready
I disagree. The liberals need to go, no matter who they have leading the party. They have done so much damage to this country that it will take decades to fix. Carney or whoever will lead the liberals, is just more of the same. Carney was behind the scenes, advising Trudeau, so the policies won't change much from what we have under JT (more like putting lipstick on a pig). Sure, they will somehow alter or scrap portions of the carbon tax, but they will just end up with another similar tax (like moving the deck chairs on the Titanic). They do not deserve another term in office, period. Also, I think PP would be a great leader for this country. We need a fresh start and that begins with sweeping the Liberal stink out of office.rikster wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 9:46 amI've held a paid membership in the Conservative Party going back to before Harper's time in office...Topper wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 8:51 am Stelantis, makers of Dodge Chrysler Jeep, cancels their Canada government sponsored battery plant and moves production of the new Durango out of Ontario and into the US costing Canada 1,500 jobs. Re: Just Not ready
The issue with backing Carney because he is smart ignores that he has been advising and formulating Liberal economic policy for five years. Before that was Morneau, also a smart guy. Did Justin go completely rogue of his advisors before the cave ins to Singh?

The bolded part of your reply is why I will support Carney if elected, the country needs the most capable person available regardless of Party...I disagree. As far as being behind the scenes, we know from the record that he has long thought that the current carbon tax has outlived its effectiveness and that an alternative plan needs to drive investment...
If this was a multi billion dollar revenue company looking to hire a CEO, PP's resume wouldn't get him to the interview stage and yet you think that he will be a great Prime minister? Interesting...
The challenge for PP or any politician campaigning on bold promises and critiscm is that much of their base would be considered net takers or beneficiaries of the countries various spending programs so when you promise to run a fiscally responsible government you will be taking from those who elected you...
Not to mention I think Trump will have a field day with him and we know that the best way to deal with Trump and the Americans is to have his and their respect...

Re: Just Not ready
Once again, ignoring that Carney's mitts are all over Trudeau policy.
The Conservatives would run face first into First Nation's NGOs and the activist Supreme Court that Trudeau has appointed. However in the face of Trump's tariffs First Nation's are seeing that we need the pipelines they have violently protested against. The Grand Chief in BC admitted he was wrong on Northern Gateway.
Today, Maritime Permits were saying they are coming on board to Energy East .
For of Canada's largest banks just left the green banking consortium that Carney was the architect of.
So far the Liberal policy is a trade war with government bailout of affected Canadian businesses. This is the COVID model that plunged Canada into irresponsible debt.

"Green banking" lol. Reminds me of ethical investing. A feel good illusion of making a difference. When you invest in a company you are not giving that company your money, it's going to the previous owner of the shares.

Carney is an elite. Strong ties to Davos. He was in support of a global carbon tax. He was chased out of UK politics. You won't see any change whatsoever if the LIberals get in.
If nothing else this election needs to send a message to MP's that they will be held accountable for their actions.
Every member of the Liberal party could have abstained or voted NO for the acts and policies that have damaged this country over the last 9 years. They didn't, they voted Yea. They partnered with the NDP to keep themselves in power to continue the course to the bottom. Electing Liberals back into power sends the message that Canadians don't care if you fail in your duty to your constituents.
But you go ahead and be a retard.

Being a special advisor means what? We know JT didn't always follow the advice given, example his former finance minister just like we know that Trump seldom follows the advice given by his advisors...
Good policy advice often runs into bad polling which leads politicians to make bad policy decisions or bold promises that haven't got a hope in hell of being kept..
Unless we are inside the decision making we seldom know where everyone stood because once the discussion is over and a decision has been made everyone supports it publically regardless of where they personally stand...So it is expected that now that a leadership race is underway we will hear more disagreement from previous policy decisions...
PP has been making bold promises, from axng the tax, to fixing the budget, to building the homes and stopping the crime. Lets see how he proposes to fullfill all of these promises...
Regarding the carbon tax, I'm curios to hear what all the candidates have to say...A recent study out of the University of Calgary has found that since 2019 consumer prices have risen 19% of which the carbon tax contributed 0.5% of the total...
And the biggest driver of food prices in 2025 is expected to be climate change and the prospect of a trade war with the US which are both in Carneys wheel house and issues that PP has very little if any experience dealing with so for me now is not the time to put an untested rookie in the Prime ministers office...
Every candidate has their warts, for me at the end of the day its an "as compared to who" decision and if the choice is between PP and Carney my decision is very easy...
And if its not Carney who comes out of the liberal leadership race I hope its Frank Bayliss who is also much more qualified than PP...
As a life long Conservative, it p*sses me off that the best and the brightest we have to offer is PP... its an embarrasment...

Trump will eat up any Canadian pussy coming’ at him, wanting to suck his mangy dick like Smith, Trudeau, O’Leary did, etc. There’s been no bigger Trump ass kisser than PP these last few years. He’s certainly ripe for the picking. We need more of that Doug Ford attitude.
