The "numbers" all point to a rising economy down here (GDP, stock market, unemployment, travel is up, etc etc), but on the ground, things just don't feel stable. A lot small businesses I've dealt with aren't having good years.

Kamala offered only more of the same on the economy. She never did get her policies forward other than the couple she stole from the opposition. Trump offered change, doubtful people cared what as long as it is different. I go back to the previous Trump regime and all my American friends were busy, making money and happy. They could care less about Trumps rhetoric as long as they kept seeing paychecks.
Similar scenario with businesses here. Small businesses have been very slow in recovering from the covid chaos. Most owners see the increased government intervention during that time was never lifted, only shifted to other regulatory measures. Interest rates are dropping to try to stimulate spending.
Turn out is a big factor in just how dismal the choices were. I go back to my early comments about the need for adults in the room. I did warm to Trump after watching him in one on one discussions and then listening to a few of his rallies. The guy has a wicked sense of humour, can play to his fan base and has an incredible sense of empathy that he never gets credit for. (not just the phone calls of condolence to victims of violent crime that get press but do you know his Mandella story?). If he could shed the bombastic four year old bully in the sandbox ...
Harris is a stage managed fake. Far too much baggage from her far left Liberal California campaigns that she never came out forthright to shed. Did she ever present herself as a serious Presidential candidate? Could anyone ever see her in an international forum?
Walz is a far left serial liar knucklehead. JD Vance is the smartest guy in the room who humbly sheds his opponents with concise messaging.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.
Do you feel that either trump or vance are honest people? Do they have character traits you admire? Does it bother you that so many former cabinet members have warned the country about how unstable, ignorant, etc trump is?
Personally, I think both would easily sell their mother to the highest bidder.
As I've said before, elections don't affect me. I do worry about groups that will be affected, mostly women (abortion rights), immigrants (legal or otherwise) whose lives will be upended by his planned mass deportations, Gazans who will be left to the whims of Israel (although Biden/Harris didn't do much for them, trump will do less), Ukrainians who will likely be asked to give up a lot of land to the Russians, and pretty much any other marginalized group down here.
Maybe taxes will go down, maybe tariffs will cause prices to spike, maybe Musk will cause such chaos that the government becomes dysfunctional, maybe the deportations will leave food rotting in the fields and construction companies unable to find workers. Who know what RFKjr will do with healthcare in this country.
Trump likely won't make it through four years (and will be golfing most of the time), and Vance has the least experience of anyone in that office. Who knows who he'll be listening to?

It's not so much about lying, it's about character. Look at the comments from those who worked with trump in his last administration.
trump's own comments about things like "vermin" immigrants "poisoning the blood of the country" "the enemy within", pardoning the people sentenced for their part in the Jan 6 riot, etc - emboldens the worst in society.

I get what Corn is saying, but Harris and the Dems have moved too far to the left and that just isn't going to fly with the majority of Americans. As far as I'm concerned, special interest groups, minorities, etc., should be taking a back seat to what really counts - the economy, law and order, immigration and world affairs.

I agree with that - but there should be room for both. You can't just ignore the needs of certain segments of your population.
The economy is most important, and like Topper said, likely the key factor that led to this. Hard to believe in a "law and order" president who commits crimes - but I'm sure his mandate will be to crack down on low level criminals. Immigration needs reform, and neither party has worked on that. I believe more in the 'path to citizenship' over mass deportations. Again - time will tell how this plays out.
