And yet the Canucks have one of the league's best top 9 groups of forwards. Keep Brock for the year though and if he doesn't want to sign a reasonable deal they have 6.65 to play with depending on what else they can do.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 7:31 pmDefinitely not seeing an overnight success story with lekkerimaki let alone even making it as a top two line winger ever, he ain’t out of the woods yet far from it. If we are trading Brock before the deadline just who exactly do we have on the wings to replace that? DeBrusk? Hoglander? lol. Fuck, the Canucks already have one of the leagues thinnest top six forward group of the teams expected to make the playoffs, if anything we need to add to it, not remove from it. Sign Boeser FFS. Him and Konecny have the same career numbers in fact Boeser’s career average is better and the Flyers just served Konecny a Yuge new contract on a silver platter. Both players are the same age. Needs to get stronger. Much stronger. Those hands will have him a star in 3-4 years I'd say

I'd extend that to our top 12. We have one of the best bottom 6 in the league, and a ton of depth of useful replacements in Abby.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 10:44 pmAnd yet the Canucks have one of the league's best top 9 groups of forwards. Hopefully some of that depth comes in handy to start the season, pretty long list of guys "dealing with stuff"
Demko - Knee Muscle
Miller - Stuff?
Pettersson - Tendonitis
Joshua - Balls
Suter - Vagina
Blugers - Lower-Body Off-Season Surgery
Hirose - Concussion
McWard - Lower-Body
Poolman - Done

With the way key players are dropping like flies throughout the league this preseason, I have zero issue with the team erring on the side of caution and sitting the stars.
Tocc has three solid days of practice this week before Fridays final tune-up. Miller is expected to play, and Blueger is practicing sans pink jersey.
The team has plenty of depth to handle the absence of Gimpko and Half-Sack.

Bruins claimed Jiri Patera. This is actually good for us imho. Clears a logjam in goal.
Di Giuseppe cleared.

Clears a log jam and one contract off the books.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
PuckPedia is now showing the Canucks as having 47 of a maximum 50 players signed to pro contracts. This is down from 49 from last weekend.
Boston took Patera from waivers today, but who was the other player deleted? Blais upon the release from his PTO?

Good. Nothing against the player, but I doubt the Canucks have signed Patera if they had signed Lankinen first. The spot on the 50 man is probably more valuable. Tilapia isn't a zero (he isn't a lot, but he's not a zero), so this way he's playing regular games in the AHL (a lot of games until Demko is healthy).Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 11:18 am Bruins claimed Jiri Patera. Good, too, on PDG. He isn't much, but he's a guy they will trust with call ups. And I don't think they will do that at the expense of Karlsson or Raty look sees (if Raty is in Abby), but they will make the call based on they conditions and play at the time of the call up.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
PDG was waived more so because he is a little more expensive than the other choices. Belief is he will be recalled once the season starts and Raty will be AHL bound. But I guess so much depends upon he health of Suter and Bluegar. This cap game they have to play is interesting to say the least. Emily is earning her keep.
Toch sounded disappointed and frustrated by the waiving of PDG. But he understood the game that was being played, sort of. I think the hirose injury is causing a slight disruption in their plans even though he shouldn't cost them much. It is a roster spot and some cap.
"Rick Tocchet on putting a veteran like Phil Di Giuseppe on waivers: ‘It’s a hard one. He’s a solid guy. He’s had a really good camp. There’s numbers involved and a lot more to it – the cap, LTIR – it’s over my head. I hope he doesn’t get picked up to be honest with you. But he’s a guy that if he doesn’t get picked up, he’s still in the mix. He’s just an unreal guy. That’s a tough one.”

PDG's not more expensive -- he's a little less expensive. But Raty has performance bonuses. It makes all the sense in the world to keep him on opening roster -- bonuses can carry over and won't count when assessing call up and they want to get to as close to cap as possible with that opening roster because if they use LTIR after the season starts, the base is that opening roster and not the cap itself (IIRC).Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 2:24 pm PDG was waived more so because he is a little more expensive than the other choices. Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
Sending PDG down makes total sense. He slides thru when every team is waiving players. And now, he can be called up any time including short stints to backfill injuries. He's better off in the minors than taking the 14th forward spot. Plus, kids like Raty, Bains and Aman still have upside. Toss in PDG's guaranteed $500k in the AHL, and he is being treated fairly too.
Imo, PDG's biggest value is he knows our system, amd we know him. On another team, he's potentially a liability, as his skill doesn't overshadow his ignorance of their system and style.
BTW, I am "rooting for Raty". Bo for Hronek was good. Bo for Hronek and a 2nd line center would be even better.
