If they are sending Adam Fantilli and some other good pieces that add up to 11 million per, I'd have a look. Peter is one of the best players in the NHL.
Peter who?
EP40... I think you know who I'm referring to.

Nah, I don’t think they would stoop to running him over with a car.

If I’m Columbus I just take on the bare minimum to get to just a hover over the cap floor and sit patiently like vultures. They are a team in rebuild or just coming out of one. See what they need as the season wears on

Agreed. They can make the floor with a quick painless deal. Then they still have 20 million per to hit the top and take back an onerous cap hit as long as they can recoup some nice young pieces for the rebuild- blue chip prospects, good young players, high picks etc. Hell.....the high priced guy(s) they pick up might produce there and make the deal(s) that much better. It's been a minute trying to explain this to some folks; but cap space matters......always.

Hargraves is here to help the helmet heads head to Hastings.

Chef, wife and daughter took a stroll through gastown a couple weekends ago, the legendary Vancouver tourist attraction receiving all the cruise shippers with open arms, what a site for sore eyes Gastown is now. The entire downtown core has gone to shit, we lasted about 20 minutes before we high tailed it out of there, it’s great though if you’re looking to score from a Zombie dealer. Their peering eyes are everywhere, like I spy with my little eye…

I don’t think Eby is throwing enough of the taxpayers money at this shit show to nurture the zombie culture to the max. The zombies are vital to this city, they are the future…

It would if Marner agreed to wave his NMC.

But he refuses. :D

Gives Marner a better opportunity to get his big bucks next contract though.

Now his agent can say to the Leaves:

"The Jackets will give us $13M x 7 as a UFA, so give us $12M x 8 or buh-bye."

I'm sure there are other teams that want/can-afford Marner as well, but every vacancy helps.

I'll bet Columbus will be bidding heavily on him (if he hits UFAgency) to fill the new void.

Of course I feel Marner is overpaid right now, nevermind getting a raise into his old age...

Up until this, cap hit and AAV have basically meant the same thing. According to CapWages, the AAV is stil $7.9, but the Cap hit is $7.42. My (mis)understanding is that the AAV is the total amount paid per year, regardless of when it is paid, but the cap hit is based on today's value of his salary. It's done similarily to an annuity. If you win $50k a year for 20 years, it's $1 million. But, the immediate cash payout is usually about half that amount. Same thing here. The Millions deferred til year 9 are worth less at that point than the same millions today. But, what do I know?

Yeah, deferred salary does not actually affect the AAV (V = Value).

Puckpedia has both the AAV and Cap Hit at $7.42M.

Look at it this way...

Let's say a team works out a deal with a player for $7M x 8 years = $56M.

Let's say the first year is bonus-only... a $7M bonus.

It's all agreed to by both sides, and then the GM says:

"How's about, instead of paying that bonus on Day One, we pay it at the end of the contract?"

The agent would probably say 'no' 99 times out of 100, but if he were to agree, he'd say something like:

"Okay, but then you have to pay interest on that bonus, so in 9 years you'll have to pay $10M instead of $7M today."

GM: "Okally dokally."

So now the player will receive $7M x 8 years + $3M interest = $59M.

But the AAV remains at $7M... as it rightfully should because it's essentially the same Value contract.

They actually have a special section in the latest CBA dedicated to this.

BTW it's been done before: Shane Doan and Jaccob Slavin

... but no one cared.

Chris Johnston said the other day Vegas offered Marchessault this kind of deal but he declined.

EDIT: I went back and edited my original post lowers affects... apologies for any confusion.

Doc, are you saying that the interest payment is not included when calculating the cap hit?

If so, wonder why paying the bonus up front doesn't have the same benefit, only in that case by reducing the cap hit?

A future value discount...

Take care...

I had a similar thought. Why would the cap hit calculation use the Net Present Value of the bonus while salary is treated as face value? Is this specifically stated in the CBA?
