Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
The NHL, by way of the CBA, can suspend any player during the course of a criminal investigation. This case has been sent back to grand jury as allegedly settlement negotiations have broken off, with both parties feeling victimized.
This case is a huge distraction and one of serious implications. Suspend him pending completion of investigation.
And I agree with Doc, they held a press conference to explain why he was at camp. Why do that? Issue a fuc£ing press release, like other teams have done in the past, saying they are aware of the allegations and ongoing investigation and are monitoring the situation. Or words to that affect. To announce and then hold a meaningless press conference is a farce.

Friedman speculating that might have been a mistake, and that the Grand Jury might want to hear from McDonough.Hockey Widow wrote:5thhorseman wrote:You really expected him to talk about the rape case in a press conference??? Yeah, that would be smart.
No, I didn't expect he would. What I didn't like was the Hawks saying after consulting with Kane's lawyers they decided it was ok for Kane to attend camp. There is a strong inference there. i mean I sure felt he was being set up after hearing that. What did they expect his lawyers to say.

Just read some articles on this. Apparently the real farce is they left him on the podium to take questions ... which he never was going to answer. By all accounts he was 'shaken' by the time they excused him from the podium, cos they absolutely drilled him.

Of course he was shaken. They beat him into submission and he admitted his guilt.5thhorseman wrote:Just read some articles on this. Sportsnet Reports Seabrook and Blackhawks nearing an extension.
Although still tight to the salary cap (less than $1 million from the ceiling, according to General Fanager), Chicago did free up signing space this summer by parting with Sharp, Johnny Oduya, Brandon Saad and others.
Keith, the team’s best defenceman and the unanimous Conn Smythe winner in 2015, already makes less than Seabrook (Keith carries a $5.538 million cap hit), and it would not be surprising if Seabrook is asking for a deal in the range of, say, Dion Phaneuf’s, which carries a $7 million hit.

Are the Wings heading for an injury plagued season?
Detroit prospect Jerome Verrier broke his leg Friday in a collision with veteran Darren Helm during a drill in the first 10 minutes of camp.

There goes Seabrook probably.Island Nucklehead wrote:Sportsnet Reports Seabrook and Blackhawks nearing an extension.

So we get to sign IN's fave cap hit player Lucic July 1st, woot!
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Maybe if Benning was able to unload Miller to SJ (which apparently was talked about with both sides) we'd maybe be able to land both. A long shot for sure; but that would certainly make a certain poster around here that likes asshole happy.BladesofSteel wrote:Nope.

Freud made a fortune in women's lingerie.........which may relate to Kane or his victim.

Yeah, some "rebuild"... 5 prospects for Gatling Gun Grabner!rats19 wrote:I am sure grabner will help the laffs future..
All they've been doing since they said "rebuild" is bring in vets and get rid of prospects.
(well they've brought in a few middling prospects as well)
The only decent prospects they have right now are 3 tiny forwards:
Marner, Nylander, and to a lesser extent Kapanen.
And the only good young player on the team this year will be Rielly.
Yup, it's gonna be a loooooooooong rebuild at the Centre of the Universe!
Leaf fans, of course, have once again been sucked in to being all gung-ho
... but give this mess a year or two.
