Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

"Since September 15th the Habs have signed 3 one-way contracts (Anderson, Petry, Edmundson) taking on $77.5 million in total one-way salary liability.

MNW: $51.7M
VGK: $36M
Other 28 teams: $78.305M"
That's amazing. I wanted Anderson here but come on.

The NJ Devils have acquired D Ryan Murray from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 2021 5th round pick. Jackets already moved Nutivaara for next to nothing today. Clearing cap space.

As VAN/AZ keep trying to figure out an OEL trade, Coyotes have asked for Demko in the mix. Canucks has shied away from that. Minny asked about Demko when VAN first inquired about Dumba last month. If the Canucks & Markstrom can agree to terms, will VAN change its position?

Columbus trading Murray for a fifth round pick and Nutivaara for an ECHLer kind of indicates even slightly over paid players that are young and can play can be had for free.

Oh, there's going to be quite a bounty of bargains on display if Jim can only keep his cool and manage to ward off Mr Aquilini.

The Blue Jackets seem to be clearing room for Pietrangelo.

Curious to see how that works out for Jarmo.

They had a winger. His name was Burrows. Meshed amazingly with the Sedins for years. Surprised you guys forgot about him :D
Yeeeesss, and while Burrows was there the Canucks brought in Loui, Samuelsson, Vrbata, traded for Booth and Kassian. Prior to Burrows joining the Twins, there was Pyatt, Demitra, Bulis, Cowan, going all the way back to ol' Anson Carter.

It doesn't really mean anything, but I agree that there's a straight line from Anson Carter to Loui "But They Dominated On Team Sweden!" Eriksson. Loui's role in coming to this team was to play with the Sedins. As we saw in their final year (well, their final week at least), the Sedins *could have* played another year or two, which would have dovetailed nicely with the Loui contract coming to an end, but as with so many other experiments on the Sedins' wing, Eriksson never worked.
But back to the comment, it’s still like saying the era ends when the goalie signed (to end the decade plus of searching for the elusive goalie to end the Goalie Graveyard) is the same thing. Crazy to think how many UFA goalies were signed with the idea of being a long term starter for us.
That is true, I think the Goalie Graveyard era ended with the Luongo trade. Its been remarkably steady ever since, other than the Eddie Lack year.
It’s like saying Edler is the last vestige of the decade-plus of searching for the elusive #1 Defenceman for the defensive corps. Crazy to think how many players were rooted through that spot with the idea of taking over that spot for years..
I agree, its also amazing how nobody has overtaken Edler for that title of "#1 D" until Quinn finally bumped him off the top PP. Edler has had remarkable staying power, and I personally think he's played some of his best hockey as a Canuck in the past 2 seasons.

Anyway, its an interesting discussion, and I find this much more stimulating than reading the name-calling and piling-on of Micky.
I guess it comes back to the basic debate of ‘pairs’ vs ‘lines’. Most pairs (Great n Kuri, Foppa n joe, Hull n oats, twins, etc) always had a rotating 3rd guy on the line, who complimented the main pair, and the pair made better (sometimes even defining that 3rd man) Usually the great pairs found that guy for a couple seasons and formed a dominate line (legion of doom, etc) but historically, those lines only lasted 2-4 years before the natural evolution of player movement and ages broke the line up. I can’t recall a ‘dominate pair’ ever forming two ‘dominate lines’ with 2 different ‘3rd guy’.. the Sedins found Burr after a bunch of trials.

How many wingers did Gretzky and Kuri have? Hull and Oats?
That answer is “Lots”.

The only reason the twins would have had more wingers than most, is that they player together longer than any of the rest.

[edit].. the other point, is the “era” ended when the twins retired.

The “Gretzky in Edmonton era” didn’t end when Messier and Buckburger left the team. It ended when Great was traded.

Kypreos saying the Oilers could sign Markstrom to a 7 year x $5M per deal to outbid Calgary.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Rumor is that Lundqvist signing in Washington is for one year @ $1.5M.

If that's true would he change his mind and come all the way west for $2.5M? Would sure make letting Markstrom land Alberta more palatable.

Would also mean there would be room for one of (or both) Toffoli and Tanev if when the OEL hype falls apart.

I’d offer Cory Schneider a one year deal for a million and make him aware he is likely the third goalie going to Utica to platoon with and support Dipietro. Then look for a real back-up. Get some potentially excellent goalie depth.

So you'd burn $1M of valuable cap space on a goalie to send to Utica?

Some goof from the mongoloid farm to the east of the Rockies thinks it would be a great idea for Calgary to find a way to skip on Markstrom and trade for Price to really take a shot at the cup.

Brilliant. I hope they do it. $10.5M on a goaltender until he's 39 years old is exactly what I want to see the Flames do.....especially at the cost they would have to pay to make the trade happen.

Sometimes reading the post-article comments over at SN is great entertainment.

Anything less than about 1.2 million sent down to the AHL doesn’t count against the cap. He’d even be good to get if they resign Marky.
