Re: LOL
No CP, it’s all about Benning. Nothing more, he will never be happy until the man who wanted Vilardi and Dobson over Pettersson and Hughes is GM of his beloved Canucks because in the weird mind of MS, he is smarter than most GMs in the NHL. So his jealousy rages on and takes priority over simply just enjoying that his beloved Benning built canucks just knocked out cold the reigning Stanley Cup Champions

WOW! Wids the notorious one! Well done young lady, well done..Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 9:56 am So what is his take, MS. Lets see:
1) we didn't win, St. Louis lost
2)we only won because of Markstrom, And because Binnington was so bad.
3) we only won because their PP disappeared not because of anything our PK did.
4) we only scored on the PP not because we had a good PP but because their PK disappeared.
5) we couldn't play 5v5 even though most of our goals came 5v5
6) they dominated along the boards even though the stats don't show that.
7) they have the best F/O guy in the league but no mention that we were terrific as a team in F/O
8) Green was lucky using the blender, not Green had a plan that worked
9) Benning was lucky to have Brackett line up his picks for him and we will see Benning's real drafting moving forward, except this year were he has pissed away a 1st and 2nd. Who does that when you are rebuilding?
10) Miller, long term isn't worth giving up a 1st especially for one lucky career year.
11) we are in cap hell with no sane way out and it will cost us another high pick or one of our young stars to get out from under this mess
12) happy we won but have to see it without rose coloured glasses on. Its all luck. Thank god for COVID because otherwise we would have missed the playoffs. Wait, doesn't winning the Cup require some luck along the way, not just skill?

Re: LOL
Quote from MS today - “In 2011 we had one of the most dominant teams in NHL history”
Um, aren’t you supposed to win the Cup for that honor? Jezus H Krist. He’s putting that 2011 non cup winning team and only one cup appearance on the same playing field as all the great teams of the past Habs, Islanders, Oilers etc
Is this idiot for real?

Gillis built us a great team with a short window. We came within one game of the Cup. Gillis deserves credit for taking the team to that final step. But he couldn't tear it down and rebuild or retool or tinker to save his job. He tried riding the coattails of that 2011 team for too long.
Two different scenarios. Gillis inherited a team with a very good young core and built around that. Benning inherited a team with an aging core on the downside and had to rebuild from that. Can't really or fairly compare. Gillis gets all the credit for 2011, Benning gets none for 2020.

Re: LOL
Also, Burke and Nonis get demonized and written out of Canucks history for providing the core that led to 2011.
They don't get one ounce of credit. I don't know if any hockey fan will truly disagree that building a solid young core is more important than finding support pieces for that core, especially in a cap era.
It doesn't mean had Nonis stayed he would have accomplished 2011. But Gillis certainly couldn't have done it without that foundation that was already in place.
JB isn't quite there yet, but he has essentially done what Burke, Nonis and Gillis did (razed, built, supplement) in a much shorter timespan so far.

So true, for some bizarre reason Gillis gets all the credit for the 2011 team. Like he built that team from scratch. Anyhow the league has shown their respect and what they think of Gillis for the simple fact that Gillis has not found a job in the NHL since he was fired 7 years ago. I guarantee Benning wouldn’t be without work too long if he was fired. He’s a true hockey man, a rink rat. Gillis is a shit talker salesman selling magic potions on how to rethink the wheel, he’s a flake who burned too many bridges due to his extreme arrogance when an agent for players. That same arrogance followed him to the Canucks front officeCarl Yagro wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 11:37 am Also, Burke and Nonis get demonized and written out of Canucks history for providing the core that led to 2011.

They definitely need mental help/therapy, their hate blinds their love for the team. Sad really.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Gillis left us with a top goalie, a 1B centre who’s the capo, and the teams #2 and #3 D men.
I’m good with current management despite their initial struggles. Not sure why a guy who last worked here 6 1/2 years ago is constantly brought up.
Funny shit. Search Gillis under the Chef’s profile... the system can’t keep up and count that high. He’s obsessed.
