I saw Lockwood play late last season and he looked really good, ready to make the jump to the AHL. This year, the results haven't been there, for Lockwood or the team. They've scored the fewest goals in the conference, and Lockwood's a player I am sure they were expecting goals from. Last week's sweep of Notre Dame could provide the jump start they need.

22 year olds with a stagnant or downward trajectory are not good bets to make the NHL. He might have the ability to develop into an energy player that will get him a contract, though. But its hard to see his upside as being more than a Tyler Motte.

It's likely his season is over in time for for a short but possibly relevant stint in Utica this season if Jim wanted to do him the big favor.
I don't know if exams in his final year could alter that equation.
My guess is Benning waits till summer but you never know.

I think Lockwood can be like a Panther Noel Acciari or a Pens John Marino...the who tf are these guys, but help your team in a low-key way, they didn't have the most productive last year in college either, but they carved their way into the NHL with hard work.

Lockwood just needs to add about 15lbs from now till Sept training camp and will likely play most if not all of 2020/21 season with the Comets.

Marino is Lockwood’s age, plays defense, and skipped the minors. Acciari is a journeyman signed as a free agent out of college (iirc) who, until this season, is the kind of player readily available at league minimum every offseason. You don’t sign a guy out of college if their upside looks like a replacement level $700K contract.

Maybe Lockwood has more — again, I thought he looked really good a year ago when I saw him live (only Hughes and Norris were better for the Wolverines) — but I’m thinking there isn’t a huge delta between him and a number of undrafted or unsigned graduating seniors looking for work when the school year is done (or in the case of the unsigned, come this summer).
