What about since 2008? where 2009 draft the Avalanche started their high drafting with Matt Duchene @ 3rd overall, they got a bump in 2010, then dropped again with a 2011 2nd overall, another crappy year in 2012, then a 1st overall in 2013....all those high picks and years later in 2017 they are still one of the worst franchises lately.Island Nucklehead wrote:Since 2012-2013, the Canucks have won 2 more games than the Avalanche.RoyalDude wrote: You mean like a losing culture like the Colorado Avalance?

Well what about since 1990 when they were the Nordiques. They have two cups during that time and had a lot of high picks. They also fisted the Canucks in the playoffs a couple times during that stretch. I can play with numbers too.SKYO wrote:What about since 2008? where 2009 draft the Avalanche started their high drafting with Matt Duchene @ 3rd overall, they got a bump in 2010, then dropped again with a 2011 2nd overall, another crappy year in 2012, then a 1st overall in 2013....all those high picks and years later in 2017 they are still one of the worst franchises lately.Island Nucklehead wrote:Since 2012-2013, the Canucks have won 2 more games than the Avalanche.RoyalDude wrote: You mean like a losing culture like the Colorado Avalance?

So basically you're saying IN's post is meaningless as well in terms of cherry picking years to compare franchises.Blob Mckenzie wrote:Well what about since 1990 when they were the Nordiques. The Avalanche started their tank rebuild 3 seasons previous to the 2012-13 season (the 2009 Duschene draft). The Avalanche and their 3 top 3 picks and losing culture over the last 8 seasons is trajecting gloriously well I see. How is the Avslanches 2016-17 season with all those amazing top 3 picks doing compared to the Canucks 2016-17 season? I'll save you the time, Canucks have 7 more wins and 17 more points.Island Nucklehead wrote:Since 2012-2013, the Canucks have won 2 more games than the Avalanche.RoyalDude wrote: You mean like a losing culture like the Colorado Avalance?

Darned Tootin'!Blob Mckenzie wrote:Gillis picked Virtanen

So Gillis and Gilman get the heat for picking Virtanen at 6. Ok , will this still be a Gillis pick if Jake ever rights the ship and becomes a good player ? Also who is responsible for picking McCann ahead of Pastrnak ? Pretty rancid pick when the Bruins (Bennings old team) picked up the young Czech right after. And who gets credit for Tryamkin, Forsling and Demko? Or for that matter Pettit and Mackenzie Stewart ? Please break it down for me Dufferin Dude .RoyalDude wrote:The only thing I could find on the net regarding Benning moving up the draft was Gary Mason reporting on Team 1040 that Benning is trying hard to move up to draft Reinhart.
Loads of interviews out there regarding Gillis prodigy - Gilman with him gushing over the thoughts of drafting Virtanen. Benning was hired a month before the draft. Gilman and Gillis scouting department were still on the payroll at the draft and were known to be lovers of the idea of drafting Virtanen. Benning being the new guy, only here a month at the time, was outnumbered (Gillis wanted Nylander or wanted to move up to draft Reinhart) and wanted to show his respect for the scouting work that Gilman and Gillis scouting department had done over the season.

Listen Bubbles, I would call the Jake pick all Benning if he had been on the clock like let's say a year, but Genius was hired a month prior to the Jake draft. He ain't gonna walk in their like a bull in a china shop and say "listen Gilman, listen Gillis' scouting department, this is my show, I ain't gonna give credit to the entire year you've put in scouting the Jake draft class one bit...blah blah blah". He threw them a bone, a meeting in the middle of sorts "lemme hear what you got and we will run with it, but next year we are drafting Boeser, bottom line!"Blob Mckenzie wrote:So Gillis and Gilman get the heat for picking Virtanen at 6. You're right, ole Nonis can absorb some of that punishment but I will tell you this ole Boobie Macenzzi...Gillis should be raked over the coals eternally for what he did with The 10th overall pick asset...trading it for a troubled meathead playing in the AHL. At least ole Genius turned McCann into Gudbranson. There is still hope for Virtanen so just maybe ole Gilman may end up looking OK on the Jake pickBlob Mckenzie wrote:So then I guess you can't fault Eye Bags for choosing Cody Hodgson ?

He did?Blob Mckenzie wrote:Gillis picked Virtanen
Lol. who did we have that was better? Vey, Etem, Higgings, Cracknell, Gaunce, Prust, Shinkaruk,Kennins?? Or was there someone else last year that was any better than either of those 2?Blob Mckenzie wrote:The fact that it took coaching and management staff the entire season to figure out these two kids weren't ready and were entitled brats is very telling. It's on the players, but it's also on the guys calling the shots. The entire veteran Canucks squad doesn't like Virtanen's work ethic, that much is apparent.
