It just astounds me, here we have a WHL semi finals that nobody's watching between Brandon and Red Deer featuring the projected first overall pick in the 2017 NHL draft and none of the major Canadian sports broadcasts gets behind it? No wonder the CHL product is struggling. Say what you will about Americans but they love their amateur junior league sports.Topper wrote:If you're going to bitch about play by play go to Bountiful.RoyalDude wrote:I get it but the damn CHL product needs some serious work. I was amazed at the shitty production of the WHL playoffs I've seen this year. C-Span has more life than that shitTopper wrote:Even at its highest level, the CHL game is still a Jr game with a few 16 year old kids scattered across every line up.
I was impressed by ND very NHL style of play, but also realize that it is an older group of young men.
The style of game they play needs to be worked on. As skills progress the game becomes much more structured with less chasing. Chasing the play is why so many kids need a couple of years of AHL to get to the NHL.

Hey Trump, I’m ANTIFA.
Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
So, are Getzlaf, Perry, Kesler on the block?? Hord to do much with 4 more years of no movement clauses. Or do you get Keenan -and- Torts to coach until they ask to be tradedHockey Widow wrote:So Anaheim's Murray really sounded off.... Feels some of the core have gotten too comfortable. Pretty pissed he was.
Saying your "core" has gotten to comfortable is a pretty nefarious comment. If those 3 guys are not your core, who the heck is??
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

Leaves sign Zeitsov from the KHL to a one year ELC. That's the RHD I would have loved to get.
The only HW the Canucks need

Meh, he'll be 25 in October, doubt he can bring his offensive game to the NHL.Hockey Widow wrote:Leaves sign Zeitsov from the KHL to a one year ELC. That's the RHD I would have loved to get.
I've heard his upside is #4 NHL Dman, doubt he gets there...

Crazy how Bieksa is their highest paid dman, and their core all have NMC's pretty much.
Lindholm is going to need a bridge contract or a long term deal with high pay.
And they gotta deal one of Anderson or Gibson, as Anderson needs a #1 goalie contract now.

They created a rather short term window.
It didn't work.
Now they pick up the pieces and try and rebuild.
That puts them about 2 years behind us, oh well

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
They have good goaltending but inconsistent. They have a good young defence but inexperienced and need to get some signed. Up front they depend upon Getzlaf and Perry. Now Kesler. Kesler has delivered. Getzlaf and Perry not so much. They have a decent supporting cast in the bottom nine but it needs work.
As the big three go so goes the team. Their window is still a few years, 3-4. They'll be ok until then.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Not sure I would welcome such a swapping of coaches between Calgary and Anaheim as a Canucks fan. Boudreau is a better coach than his firing deserved. Hartley may be just what Murray and company want in the Anaheim dressing room. It will either wake up the core that disappointed them this year, or it may tune them out and start an exodus.
I always knew Hartley had a finite period of employment no matter where he went. Thought we'd have another year of him wearing those kids down before getting the slip.
Wonder how Bountiful is doing over there.

Moving this discussion here
He should be coaching in Attawapiskat.
Bountiful seems to be the only place on the planet this is a surprise.
His performance in Colorado was no different.Hank wrote:...and a ginormous p**sy.Topper wrote:Hartley was an smug goon coach.
Sending out da goons but hiding in the dressing room behind his players. Staying silent and diverting eye contact when challenged.
Torts rightfully got his just desserts for losing his cool but Hartley should have been reprimanded more by the league and called out by pundits and court of public opinion for his chicken-shit, minor-league style.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Wait for it. There'll be the inevitable bout of Orwellian doublethink.
"Money-hands would have netted 40 goals if Hartley hadn't stalled him. He held the kids back."
"The Flames would still be playing hockey if Hartley wasn't behind the bench. He could never get this team past the 1st round."
"Great move by Treliving to seize the opportunity to get a coach that will put us in contention."
This shit almost writes itself...

Ugh, I listened to that dumbass Sekeres on the radio this morning, calling Hartley a brilliant coach cuz he won the Jack Adams award last year - totally ignoring that they were the worst possession team to ever make the playoffs and had the most unsustainably-high shooting % in the league.Topper wrote: Bountiful seems to be the only place on the planet this is a surprise.
Treliving knew it was luck that got the Flamers to the post-season, he said as much last year. Maybe Sakic will figure that out in Colorado and get a new coach as well...

Treliving on Jack Adams season: “2 years ago, we made 18 40-foot putts. A lot went right. Not to diminish anything anyone did”
