The latest I have heard from the Höglander camp is that he ... can potentially can win a spot over Loui Eriksson with a strong performance at training camp.
I hope to Christ he can. Playing better than Loui is not the particular bar I would choose for a 2nd liner to try to beat.
I hope coach Green wont be tempted this year to line Louis up with Bo when there's an injury or if he thinks a shake-up is needed. He will.

If he's in town. :sly:

Is that not concerning if Hoglander did not make the cut?

Hoglander aged out by a few days, not eligible for the WJC.

Hoglander has been crazy good this year in Sweden, driving play like a madman. I bet he’s pencilled into the lineup already.

I wonder if he's left off due to his contract status - i.e., likely to be in North America, even if its on the AHL squad. Whereas perhaps Lias Anderson is committed to playing the entire season in Sweden?

Vasily Podkolzin is not in SKA's line-up this morning for the 3rd straight game. Demoted to the VHL for at least one game.

Vasily Podkolzin finished the game with a primary assist and 3 shots in 16:37 of action.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rick Dhaliwal @DhaliwalSports
Talked with GM Roman Rotenberg of Vasili Podkolzin’ s team in Russia.
Despite Podkolzin struggles, Rotenberg can still can see a player with huge NHL potential, “100%, I see the potential. He does a lot of things right, he is just not scoring.”
----------------------------------------
Rotenberg on why Podkolzn was demoted to a lower league today : “We are sending him to VHL to get ready for the National junior team, get in shape, work hard and become a leader. We believe in him, the coaching staff does as well, we are working with him to be a leader.”
---------------------------------------
Rotenberg on Podkolzin offensive struggles : “He gets many scoring chances, he needs to improve his shot and he will. Improve the shot and a faster release and he will score more, he plays well to create the chances, he just needs to score more and he will.”

Send him to us at the first opportunity.. ;) Kidding! Sounds like he's going through what many high picks do when they start playing with
the grizzled vets. It's good he's working hard on improving.

He was executed.

Sad, really. He could have had a great career in standup comedy. :(

Nope. This team was announced on Monday. These are th eguys who are going. Höglander did not make the cut.
He's pretty decent for his age, but this is not a J20 team, this is the national team. I would say that he is not even close to making the cut, even though they have only picked players playing in Sweden this time, due to travel restrictions, etc. Had all players in the KHL and the Swiss league also been available, he would be even further away from a shot.
