He has an exceptional shot and not much else. Hes also enjoyed the benefits of playing on a powerhouse full of excellent forechecking forewards.

Hes nowhere near Matthews whatsoever
I’m not a massive Laine fan but there were posters on this here board that claimed he was better than Matthews. That said 110 goals in three years at that age is nothing to sneeze at.
That shot is among the best to ever play the game. It can hide his issues when they go in like that. Defenses were cheating over to get in his space way more last year hence his impact suffered.

If you could ever get him pissed off he would be a beast. Tortorella might coax 60+ goals out of him by fucking with his fragile eggshell mind

Yeah, AM hardly saw Marner at even strength... only on the PP.

His main linemates last year were declining Marleau and non-playmaking Kapanen.

(with a dash of rookie Johnsson)

Don't tell Tuna but I have a bad feeling Matthews is gonna score 50 this year. :wow:

I've seen him a bit in the preseason and he's on a mission.

Having said that, I don't see the Tavares/Marner line putting up quite as many points...
Don't worry doc, Matthews is going to get another significant injury and miss too many games to hit 50.

Doyle Hargraves wrote: Mon Sep 23, 2019 11:51 am Cheechoo had those years playing with maybe the second best playmaker to ever play the game and he was aged 23-27 with a lockout year sandwiched in there. Laine has played most of his time with Brian Little as an 18-21 year old. Big difference.
What about Mason Ehlers?

Spoiled brat syndrome. Either that or he's simply a p***k.
He needs a hockey daddy. A coach or older player who can discipline him in a way acceptable to the boy. To say he is a one trick pony may be true now but imagine what he could be if developed properly.
Like a Sami Salo, BerryMan? I agree, look at how much Juolevi matured under Salo’s wing

Patrik Laine is like a Formula One Scuderia Ferrari but with a rookie driver - guide him on the right path & dude will be an unstoppable goal scoring force.

You may be right, but I think its 50/50 whether he's already hit his peak. I feel like he's deliberately delayed back surgery to help his contract negotiation, when he comes back from that it will take another year to get back into form, then he'll be mid-20s playing on a greatly diminished Jets team.

With his back, Skyo, what do you reckon Laine will score this year after missing training camp? I'd say 30 at most.

I'm thinking of a guy like Laine.

Not a great skater. Poor defensively, compounded by relative laziness.

Laid back guy -- where's the fire? Some said prima donna.

Unlike Laine, not a big guy. But if you aren't using your size, what's the difference? Aversion to being hit and hitting.

What a waste, right?

Oh wait. This guy scored 741 goals in the NHL..... All because of having a best shot in the game and great offensive instincts.

Don't write off Laine. Don't rationalize away the value of what he does well because he doesn't do everything well and doesn't do it with overt passion. Laine is flawed, to be sure, but what he is good at he may very well be the BEST at.

Brett Hull might not have been one of a kind after all.

The problem for Winnipeg is he’s not a well rounded player, really good at one thing and that is it. He’s quite hopeless in all other aspects of the game. But in Laines mind he’s special, Matthews special. He doesn’t deserve the money he thinks he deserves, an extremely selfish hockey player. Jets are in a tough spot

So why do you constantly bring up Keith Ballard and David Booth when I “adjusted” for them many years ago? I said in both of their second seasons that they weren’t good acquisitions.

TSN has made the necessary “adjustments” regarding their Top 50 NHL Players list they released today. Patrick Laine no longer rated in the top 50, he doesn’t make the “new” List!

Pettersson gets ranked 37th on the new list
