Man does Seattle ever suck eh.
They have the whole KRAKEN thing going for them, but they go with an anchor - an arrow pointing down - not the legendary sea creature in the team name.
Kinda like the Canucks having their long (futile) history to draw from, and then just change the colours on the current jersey.
There's a couple of interesting ones in the lot - some new approaches like the Hurricanes and Sharks - but they are mostly recycled ideas.
I never thought about it like that, Corn. Logos affect success?
We mock our plate of spaghetti skating downhill. Never thought about a sinking boat achor pointing down.
Compare it to our 3rd tier teams in Mickey Mouse leagues... ferocious Lions have won, villagers have climbed to the the top of the peaks, John Canuck has lumberjacked the competition.

I always found the downhill skate conversation ambiguous.
Funny thing is this is something that's bothered me for a long time and I was just about to post exactly what you said (maybe we old guys think alike).
Do we want the skate to point upwards, so then it represents a slow uphill battle? Maybe perfect for this franchise. Or could just angle it flat to lose the ambiguity altogether. But I like it the way it is pointing down. It looks fast, and I don't know about anybody else but reason I like it so much is whenever I look at it now it brings back the most exciting era of this franchise when Pavel rocked the logo and the '94 run. A fast, blurry skate was the perfect thing for Pavel 'Blurry' to have on his chest.
I never loved Johnny Canuck because I just don't like cartoony logos. But it is hands down the best logo for representing a "Canuck" and gotta say it's grown on me quite a bit because it looks so good on green with those amazing Abby home jerseys.
I also like the stick & rink for it's simplicity. Though generic it has a classic vintage feel.
The whale's by far the worst of the bunch. An Orca's fine if it was the team name. It probably confuses people who never knew what a canuck is and now think it's a whale. The best thing about it is the haida art. That aspect is great but there's just too much going on in it. Two simple things would improve the overall design; lose the breaking out of the ice thing (totally unnecessary)..and less or no teeth to remove the birthing/constipated look. A haida whale shaped like a C is all you need.
The V's were just plain terrible. But, like the skate it represents a memory and another Cup run so for kicks wouldn't mind seeing it back a game or two. This remix thing would've been the perfect opportunity to do something with it. But I suppose now is probably the best time to go bland and boring because nobody's watching anyway. The 32nd best remix design for the 32nd best team in the league is apropo.

I always thought the skate was just a snapshot of the skating stride. Like just after you push off an lift your foot off the ice.
Nowhere in a skate stride does the toe of the skate point upwards.
AP, I think the direction signifies a toe-pick before face-planting oneself into the ice. Very apropos.
Enjoying these discussions and over-anal-yzing everything.
I'm just here for the yuks.
...and au contraire people, I've been watching the kidz post skating tutorials online because everybody wants to learn to skate like McDavid. Everything I ever learned from years off power-skating and edges is completely opposite.
They're explaining his crossover speed coming from driving the heels down and practice exaggerating with the toes up and forcing the inside shoulder away from the lean.
I dunno man, but I'm trying to find some quiet ice to try this.

The Jets have placed Brad Lambert on waivers. I'm not sure how anyone wouldn't consider him an upgrade over Arshdeep Bains. No NHL results, but really young with a good resume.
