Buium (76) Willander (70)
DPete(98) Mancini (55)
Mynio (0) Kudryavtsev (5)
Schenn (1122)

Gawd, good thing I am not the GM. Schenn raises our average games per player from *cough* 50 to a respectable 200.
Players should be developing where it is best to develop them. More often than not, you need to play with NHL players to further develop your NHL game. It does a forward's development no good if the puck's in the d-zone 75% of the time. It does a defender's development no good if their partner is a second pairing AHL caliber player playing on his off side. It does a player's work ethic no good if he's not desperate for the spot in the line up because there are no other options.

Rebuilds are always uncertain and hard, but there were some damn good players that made their way through Buffalo but never got them out of the rebuild, and part of the reason was the lack of NHL complements to help the kids develop. You have to learn to swim in the shallow end.

That's not an argument for holding onto Hronek or MP3 if the right deal is on the table. Its an argument for, if you make such a move, then make sure you are getting a return (or making another move -- so factor that price in) so that a defensemen who is objectively better off cooking in the AHL isn't forced into top 6.

The same can be said for guys like Cootes. You can always sign a center who ends up getting waived if Cootes is ready, but I think the odds are very likely that he's going to be best off taking at least a year in the AHL. For a guy like Sushi, its sink or swim, but guys like Cootes aren't far enough in their development to plan on them having a lineup spot.

I wonder how much of Meaterssons struggles were due to coaching issues and how much are that he just plain stinks. I recall him being a pretty solid defender in Pitt but what we got was definitely not that version.

Was he that bad or was he a product of a shittily coached system?

I think in Pittsburgh his role was to be reliable while Karlsson and Letang (one of whom was almost always his partner) roamed).

It’s not clear to me he had the same defined role in Vancouver, whether roles weren’t worked out (as his partner kept changing) or whether he’s lost something, I don’t know. Likely, it is a little of both.

They both know they’re done and no contender will want Ithem. They will have very little trade value, and take up minutes better used by the kids.
Couldn’t be more wrong.

Both of those guys are established vets with leadership attributes, they play with no quit, and they know how to protect their own end. Schenn also will protect the kids with his paws if it comes to it.

If you want the kids to develop and build the confidence to try stuff, having guys like that is key. They won’t eat minutes from any kid that is deserving of them. You don’t bring them in as players you intend to flip. They are mentors and placeholders.

Short affordable contracts will be key. I'm not too concerned about limited the kids' minutes - if they can't push old vets off the roster, then they can cook in Abby.

Speaking of short and affordable, the Canucks have signed Chase Wouters to one year contract. $850 and $425.

One thing that struck me when the Twins and RJ were announced was their mention on more than a few occasions about "alignment" from top to bottom - The Twins on down to the coach. Then, when Carolina won the Cup, there were more than a few bouquets thrown at Carolina's organization for being aligned and disciplined from ownership on down in what kind of team they want to have and how they want them to play.

Perhaps (or maybe it's wishful musing) this was the kind of pitch the Twins made to ownership, knowing they had their guy in RJ - and undoubtedly their coach in Manny. Four guys who all know how each other think the game should be played. Follow the Carolina model of conscientious team-building based on a way they want the team to play vice who's out there regardless of fit. It took them 8 years to get there, but it's still 8 years of playoff revenue - music to Frankie's ears.

We'll see if this bunch has the stones to pull it off, but you have to admit that if they truly are aligned on the kinds of players they want to play the style they want to play, it's a damn sight better than the last two regimes.
Love the Sport. Love the Team.

Absolutely it would be the obvious next move for the chat board.

Yah, I always liked Blobby Mac & Chef and enjoyed reading their posts. I hope the mods allow them back if they interested, maybe around the draft or free agency or next season. Give them a warning, if they are still breaking rules, just put them in the penalty box again for like 3 months. Rinse and repeat until they learn their lesson. :P

Another idea might be just give them their own thread: the Blob Cat and Chef thread (read at your discretion) where they can banter about between themselves all they want.

Sounds like RJ might have read some of us here and our desire to tear it all TF down.

Maybe watching the how the Canes have won the tortoise race, slow, steady and persistent have convinced TNFGs to finally do it properly.

...and maybe pigs will fly out of Frank's azzz.

Let's hope Team Nepo actually has the ballz to do it and FA has the stomach to flush millions more down the toilet to retain. What a disaster of a choice. Mollycoddling spoiled brats is never the way to go.

Bring back Higgins after this is done.
