2026 IIHF World Championship

Re: 2026 IIHF World Championship
Sweden lost to Norway, 2-3.
We were the better team, but they had a good goalie and played a smart game.
Two of their goals were short handed, which frustrates me.
You should not allow a team to score on you short handed.it’s sloppy and lazy.
I expect better!
This means Sweden may also miss the quarter finals, but if both Canada and we beat Slovakia we should get fourth place, but it is no longer in our own hands.

I watched that game Per. The Norgays played the game of their lives holy hell. If they can play like that they'll be joining the top tiers internationally soon

Re: 2026 IIHF World Championship
Norway took Canada to OT a couple of days back as well and the Canadians needed a late empty net goal to tie and force....

All match footage for the IIHF World Championship is produced by Infront Productions, the host broadcaster and exclusive media production partner for the International Ice Hockey Federation.
They provide the global broadcast feed (complete with international graphics and English commentary), which is then distributed to rights-holding television networks worldwide

Re: 2026 IIHF World Championship
Lol there ya go I guess
I was specifically referring to the replays...slow motion intervals then full speed then back to slow mo . It's very well done
Sportsnet (and CBC) just can't wait to zoom into faces for closeups right after whistles while all the good shovings and punches are going on. Its aggravating

Norway took Canada to overtime, then beat Sweden and now demolished the Czechs 4-1.
Half their team consists of SHL players, a handful play in Finland or Germany and then they have two NHL players, Brandsegg-Nygård and Stian Solberg. And one guy in the AHL.
I've heard good things about their coach, Petter Thoresen. He is btw the father of Patrick Thoresen who played a couple of seasons in the NHL and then seven seasons in the KHL. There is also another son, Steffen, who was not quite as successful, but at least won the Norwegian championship twice.
Petter himself won three Norwegian championships as a player and was part of the core of the Norwegian national team throughout his career, representing them at 5 Olympic tournaments, 4 World Championships, and 5 B-World Championships. He has won twelve more Norwegian championships as head coach and has also coached the national team before, 2016-2022, but then coached Storhamar for four years before returning to the national team. Very experienced guy and a lot of high praise for his coaching skills.
And yeah, I think they played a very smart game both against Canada and Sweden. Didn't see their other games. He gets more than expected out of his players. But still, very unexpected. On paper their team does not look that impressive.
Maybe the Canucks should hire him?

So, the USA and Sweden both managed to sneak into the quarter finals despite a lackluster roundrobin.
Norway faces Latvia in the quarterfinals. So one of these two will reach the final four!
