UWSaint wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 3:27 pm Completely agree. When the Sedins said “compete,” they weren’t talking about winning games, they were talking about playing like your job depends on it every night.
Which is exactly what Benning said heading into his "retool".
Just'cause Benning said it doesn't automatically make it wrong.
If memory serves, Benning said the plan was to compete for the playoffs.
That's what I thought I remembered, but my memory is not a trustworthy as it once was.
In my reading, those quotes supports Mëds' interpretation better than Topper's.

But perhaps Benning was trying for strategic ambiguity. :sly:

The advantage of a rebuild thread, though, is the opportunity to focus on a future that may still be better than than the past. I hope that throughout this re-build, the Canucks are incontrovertibly using UWSaint's interpretation.

I've been to about 3 or so season tix holder events with my buddy in the past... and yeah, they treat them well. They don't skimp on the food, the players and prospects are on their best behaviour and remain patient with fans. Alumni are out there chatting everyone up, Darcy Rota even tones down his crazy, psycho eyes.

That's a negative in my opinion. Imagine a night on the town with DR snarfing back toilet tank rails and absynth

They have to sedate that guy.

You want him to start stabbing fans in the trachea with a Bic?

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I wasn't wearing rose-coloured glasses. That may have had a decisive effect.
