Chatter is still that Matthews wants out of TO so move him to get McDavid!
McDavid for Matthews and the 2026 1OA.
Matthews won't stay in EDM so then flip him somewhere in the states to bolster the blueline and find a goalie. Both would have to waive their NMCs so you'd have to manufacture the deal and then get them to sign off on it. So find out where Matthews will be willing to accept a trade to.
LA, Seattle, Utah?
Could probably get a stellar package out of LA who's looking to replace Kopitar.
McDavid won’t ask for a trade right now. He signed on for 2 more years out of loyalty to fan and Leon. If Bowman doesn’t deal with the crease, and one of Nurse or Bouchard (most sensibly the former), I can see him wanting out next summer if the season is a repeat of this past one.
At that point trying to organize a 3-way with Toronto may be something to be looked at.
That being said, Toronto is as much a mess as Edmonton. No goaltending and a piss poor blueline combined with a culture of falling well below expectations. I cannot see McDavid wanting to go there.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..
I can't help but see the parallels between this offseason for the Oil to ours last summer.
Seems like a billion years ago, but "Win for Quinn" was only one year ago when everything the team did was geared toward keeping him around (a massive mistake in retrospect). We can argue what was the more likelihood of either QH or McD staying, but I think both of them leaving was/is a fait accompli imo.
So yeah, this is it for Edm. They have one more crack at it and that's all she wrote for that group. If they don't win it all next year, and unless he miraculously inks another extension, I can't see them entering McD's final year with him around or lasting beyond the TDD.
Agree that TO would be terrible for him, they'd actually be worse than Edm is right now. I have no idea what kind of NMC he has or if he'd ever waive to go back home, but I wouldn't mind seeing it because while TO can finally blow their wad with McD, they'd both be fucked for years. The other side of it is I actually like him and hope he wins a Cup someday, so I think SJ would be a great destination for both parties.

But we all know full NMC's are ever that. He can be moved and he'll be the one calling he shots. Can't see him doing it to go home tho.
He will chase a Cup. Who k is maybe LA
That would be a kick in the nuts for Oiler fans.
First 99 then 97.
If he really wants out they would be smart to move him. They could get a boatload for him. I think the fact he signed a 2 year extension shows he will stay for those two years but hehe feels they way his German friend does, thatchy. have gone backwards and have gotten worse, he may decide nowise enough.
Would be something to see both Matthews and McJesus traded this off season

Both teams would need a "bottom part of the top 6/top half middle 6 center" if those trades happen. (that's for you, Mëds. yw)

LOL. Yes trade them Pettersson for a boatload. Get the 1OA from Toronto.
