Connor McDavid will be 30 in January.
The Oilers may have just displayed the worst Management processes involving the 20 age years of a generational player in the history of the league.

I was going to say something similar.
As horrible as our team has been run, the Oilers are arguably worse given the gifts they had to work with. How long have they had the two best players in the world and it still hasn't resulted in a Championship despite being close a couple times. The failure to get them over the hump is just criminal.

They had ten years to find a goalie, and they just couldn't do it. McDavid handed them the money to pay his salary and they still couldn't get it done.
Tragic fucktardation.

And a coach?
Yes, Knob got them there a couple times but me thinks they might've done better with someone more experienced.
Let's also not forget the gifts we gave them, Podkolzin and taking Kane's money off their hands. Rutherford did his best to help that team and it still didn't work.

Yeah. Hopefully they can pull it off down in Tampa.

I don't like McJesus, but, yeah. The Coilers have really shit the bed. As a fan of the game, it is embarrassing. And it is all due to bad management, with bad priorities, not because of cap issues. McJ is $5 under his real value. Hyman and RNH are both under by a couple of millions each too. You can't blame it all on Nurse's overpayment, as they are making bank on underpaying 3 of their stars. Its just a complete lack of appreciation for the fundamental fact you need at least an average goalie. How many 1st round picks did they spend on depth forwards for the playoffs, instead of a goalie.
A comedy and a tragedy all in one.
Pass the popcorn.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

Nurse
Bouchard
They've overspent by $6M on two defensemen.
Throw in the goaltending (that you mention), and it's fucking brutal.

Re: 2025-26 OOTS: Playoffs Edition
I'd remove Bouchard from the overpay list. He's a legit top 5 defender with or without the warts
If you need air...call it in
Re: 2025-26 OOTS: Playoffs Edition
Remove Nurse and Bouch is a less painful hit for sure.
Evan was getting that $$ elsewhere all day everyday.
You can take that to the bank.
He's repped by "key to the deal" Wasserman Hockey EVP Dave Gagner for shits and giggles sake.
Others in their stable include McDavid, Matthew's, Werenski and others...

The other defensemen who are paid like him score fewer points, but they also don't make mistakes that directly end up in their own net on the ensuing play.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Sat May 02, 2026 8:34 am I'd remove Bouchard from the overpay list. Those other defensemen also don't get to earn most of their points on a power-play with McDavid and Draisaitl.
If McDavid leaves Edmonton in 2 years Bouchard's production will probably drop by 20%.....and he will still make the same mistakes.
I'd pay him $8.5M.
Nurse isn't worth more than $5.5M.

Re: 2025-26 OOTS: Playoffs Edition
The argument is moot at this point.
Mëds has his opinion and states the same reasoning for it every discussion.
Others have theirs and state the same thing every time in response.
What a properly managed team would have done is keep Broberg, pair him with Bouch and offset the ailments in Evans game the ParaMedsic speaks of.
Both Broberg and Holloway have now signed long term deals with St. Louis as key parts of their moving forward approach.
So yeah...Oiler Management sucks is the key here.

Quite so.
Have I mentioned that I wouldn’t pay Bouchard more than $8.5M because of the way…..
Oh.
Right.
Nvm.
