I know this is a longshot and highly unlikely, but one guy who would be a great POHO and buffer between ownership & the GM would be Geoff Courtnall. He's another guy that Aquas trust. He was the one who referred MG to them back in the day. The only thing is, I know Courts seems to be pretty happy just doing his investment stuff and not sure how interested he is in hockey mgmt. Aquas prob have great respect for the doods who know how to make $$.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Thu Apr 23, 2026 4:11 pm One thing that has been mentioned is that he has convinced owners a rebuild is needed. So having him hang around as that buffer may help the new gm to stick to the rebuild as planned. It maybe in our best interest for one more year.
Yah, I like Manny and thought he would have been a better option that Foote Job; however, this year's Abby Canucks are almost as bad as the big club. Probably not all his fault and he did lose a lot of guys, but it is a bit of a red flag seeing a team go from Championship caliber to mediocre team.

Patrick Burke’s got the right name, but lacks GM experience - worked as a scout, with DOPS and is a lawyer.
He looks like more of an assistant GM candidate, maybe? Take over for Ryan Johnson if Johnson is hired?
I guess he’d have his Dad’s ear though, so you never know?

Wonders never cease...........there appeared to be mutual interest between the Canucks and Boston Bruins assistant general manager Evan Gold. Gold, a McGill graduate with an MBA from the University of Toronto, has worked in Bruins hockey operations for 10 years, earning a promotion to assistant general manager in 2019 and taking on the duties of running the AHL Providence Bruins in 2023.
Like with Peterson, Gold’s work with the Bruins is highly regarded in both traditional and more progressive hockey circles around the NHL.
Peterson being Florida's AGM Brett who has apparently been interviewed as well.

Well they are certainly putting a lot of names out there. No one can accuse them of not doing their due diligence when they finally name RJ

Word is that the Canucks are close to wrapping up their first round of interviews and developing their short list. The zoom meetings have included JR, ownership representation, and other management/ business staff. Short list will be no more than 3-4 guys including RJ.

I expect no more than this type of anti-climactic substitutional transition.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2026 8:51 pm Well they are certainly putting a lot of names out there. No one can accuse them of not doing their due diligence when they finally name RJ![]()

It would induce a lot of eye-rolls if, in the end, RJ is the one they select. Not saying he's a bad choice, but it makes the whole process look like a kabuki dick-dance typical of this ownership.donlever wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2026 9:26 pmI expect no more than this type of anti-climactic substitutional transition.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2026 8:51 pm Well they are certainly putting a lot of names out there. Rutherford and Benning are guys that were successful back east and came here as the promised sharpest tools in the shed, that soon rusted. The Canucks haven’t had a home grown GM since Burke and Nonis.
No one on the lists I’ve seen looks like an upgrade on RJ.

What I’m reading about Evan Gold is more appealing than what I’ve read about RJ.Picker of Cherries wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2026 7:06 am Rutherford and Benning are guys that were successful back east and came here as the promised sharpest tools in the shed, that soon rusted. Couldn't possibly hire Gold.
He's:
...from back East...they don't understand West Coast team construction
...from Boston we tried that already
...basically the same as Ryan Johnston so why bother
...means we will lose Manny for sure
...a proven builder developer of men hugely respected in league circles and who has done it from the bottom up.
Da fuq we want a guy like that for.

I was one who said the Boston thing…..but it was tongue in cheek.
Your final point is well taken. No way, no how, is he a fit here.
