Non-Hockey 2026 Olympic thread

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Apparently she was among the top skiiers in time trials before the race, but yeah wow what a way to go out.

Just watched this GDHTMB's favourite speed skater win gold and set an Olympic Record in womens' 1000m.

The Wranå kids made it to the final by beating Britain in the semifinal. The Swedish commentators kept referring to the Brits as Scotland, which I guess is what they are at all tournaments except the Olympics.

I didn’t really know who these people were, but turns out Rasmus Wranå is a member of Team Edin and his sister Isabella is the skipper of her own team, that has beaten Team Hasselborg for the Swedish world championship slot this spring. It’s Team Hasselborg that represents us at the Olympics though.

This is Isabella Wranå’s first Olympics and she and her brother have already secured a medal.

Are you one of those weird people that gets up 4:00 AM, eats a healthy breakfast and then goes on a 5 km run, all before 5:00?

I can see you doing that :D .

I'm so glad I'm retired although my workout regime is a bit more intense than yours. I should do more stretching type stuff, but I do more weight lifting and cardio (running and interval training)

I admire your discipline to living purposefully and in a meaningful way.

I've slowly shifted to getting busy living (Andy Dufresne) after getting out of the rat-race. Taken way too long to learn what's really important.

The getting up in the middle of the night part though... that's tough during the cold, dark Canadian winters. Probably the toughest Non-Hockey 2026 Olympic event.

I was the opposite - work until 3 am and up at about 10 am. Working at night was when I could get stuff done. Up until 5 pm I was just answering phone calls and in meetings. Don’t miss that at all. I prefer woodworking in my shop in the afternoons these days.

Sweden is off to a great start! Three golds already, two silvers and as bronze!
Apart from the curling gold, all medals are from women’s crosscountry skiing.

But please don’t mention Norway.

Hear! Hear!

But I still take my work calls/online meetings in the shop too... Hybrid workspace??

Not on Donny's super early mornings, but up at 5:30am, at work by 6am. Most of my business partners are out east, so early in for me - as its already 8am out there.

Canadians have the second largest contingent at the games, and only 3 medals so far. Need to start looking into that shooting percentage.
