What trades do you think will actually happen this season?

Post by Picker of Cherries »

I’m not sure if the Canucks are still in the no plan plan, are retooling, are hybrid retooling (whatever that is) or rebuilding. But I think I’ll know it when I see it. I listed veteran players that could be traded and what I think it means along the no plan plan, retooling, hybrid retooling, rebuilding continuum. I won’t believe they are rebuilding unless I see one of Garland, Demko, or Pettersson moved, because they have longish contracts and moving any could significantly weaken the short term potential of the team to bounce back next season, perhaps leading to a prolonged (maybe Buffalo style) rebuild (not saying that the Canucks might not already be in one). Choose the players you think will actually be moved this year and let us know what you think Canucks management is actually thinking:

1. The no plan plan - keep most players, maybe a tweak or two, and trade a pick or two this season because it sure would be nice to get some playoff revenue.
2. Retooling - get rid of a few UFAs and get a few younger prospects and they can maybe make the playoffs next season.
3. Hybrid retooling (the uncommitted rebuild?) - somehow move out some significant underperforming players on long term deals, and fill holes by getting lucky with the prospects and draft capital returned.
4. Rebuilding - gonna have to suck a while and wait for a new core to grow.

Trade them all. Get younger and more picks. With all the cap we have start trading prospects and picks to get some good vets on the team and blow the rest in free agency.
The only HW the Canucks need

Realistically - Sherwood retool plan, that’s it. Maybe a few table scraps after that but all this hinges on where this mystery club is leading up to the deadline cause as we know with this club, they are the no plan plan boys.

I just voted for the top 3.

Sherwood should be able to land a decent mini package.

Kane will go for a mid round pick, someone will want the forward depth for a run.

Same with Blueger, Kampf and Forbert, gone for depth picks.

Look for the teams in the east currently in contention for the playoffs with multiple first round picks to make a pitch for Sherwood - NYR, NYI and Boston. My money is on Boston.

Boston had Toronto’s first
NYR has a first from Dallas
NYI has Colorado’s first.

If they don't try to get any kind of assets back for the UFAs, then I truly don't know wtf they're doing.

LeBrun had Sherwood going to Dallas in a little exercise they did on The Athletic that was published this morning.

Chris Johnston had him going to Boston.

I can definetly see Dallas.

I'd be surprised if Nill wasn't JR's first incoming call.

Dallas needs to take the next step and they're in tough in that division.

I'm still waiting for Boston to collapse lol.

I’ll know what they are doing.
If they are within let’s say four or five points of a wildcard spot at the TDL, they’ll keep their own self-rentals and try to make the playoffs.
It ignores all the flaws that are obvious with the roster that stops them from being serious cup contenders.
It means this team’s goal is only to get a couple games of playoff revenue.
It won’t surprise anyone.

I don't know, but I know that they don't know that we know that they don't know what they're doing, but they think that everybody should see and know that they know what they're doing, you know?

Either Dallas, Boston or a team that can give us a 1st rounder and a prospect. I think this is very doable. That battle alone in the Central should up the selling price for arms dealers.
