The Alien
Plays competitive chess, studies astrophysics, reads in his locker room stall prior to games, explains cosmic phenomena to his team mates.
Turned Pro at the age of 15,
Age 18, League MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Playoff MVP
Age 19, 1st overall draft pick, Rookie of the Year, 2nd in Defensive Player of the Year voting, Olympic Silver medal
Age 20, All Star, missed over 1/2 the season due to injury, was a lock on Defensive Player of the Year before injury
Off season rehab - to get mentally tougher and to gain more body control, joined a Buddhist Monastery in China to study meditation and martial arts. He then spent a couple of weeks in the private gym working one on one with an all time greats at his position. Knowing he needed to play tougher, he seeked out and worked with a recognized asshole at his position. All the while being a gym weight room rat whenever he isn't working on his shooting.
Last night he lead his team into the Cup Final, an early, in season tournament. Payed for airfare and hotels for a loyal section of fans to attend and make it feel like a home game. Lost the game, broke down in tears in the post game presser, "I'm sorry, I lost someone today." Earlier in the day, he received word his Grandmother had passed away but he still played.

For those who don't get it he's speaking of Victor Wembanyama.
The soon to be best player in the NBA (and if health is his friend perhaps top 5 all time) and an individual that EP40 would do well to emulate in terms of preparation of self for team and teammates.

Well, both Aliens did shave their heads.
One did it to integrate himself into the Shaolin Temple to learn meditation, kung fu, traditional medicine and to expand his mind and body... the other? Genetics.

[from Skyo's thread]
I agree that there's no point in selling cheap, but because he is -- theoretically, anyway -- one of their most valuable assets, I think it would be more important to make the sure that the return on any trade is good on EP40 than on most of the pending UFAs. (That might seem like hair-splitting on urgent vs important, but the difference is something management teams need to keep in mind.)
But as much as I don't want to sell low on Pettersson, I think that his relative lack of physical durability and (what others here have described as) awkward skating means that he will begin to depreciate (even more) rapidly towards the second half of his contract, and the Canucks would be well advised to find some way to turn him into a more suitable asset -- or even just get his cap hit off the books -- before the start of the '28 - '29 season. Do the best long-term pump 'n' dump that they can. If anyone will offer an unprotected first-rounder in any draft before 2035, take it.
As far as I know, the Canucks have no one else even projecting to be a #1 centre at this point. On the other hand, before he got injured, EP40's production was not in the top 32 centres in the League, either.Picker of Cherries wrote: ↑Mon Dec 22, 2025 2:24 pm I have no problem with the way Petey has played this season. Not his peak, but quite good at both ends of the ice. He was not good from the all star break two season ago up till the start of this season. I don’t know why. Injury, club house conflict, conditioning. your guess is as good as mine. I don’t see another centre who can take his place. Top six centres are not easy to find. Rossi and Cootes as top six centres is not better than Petey and Rossi. He’s signed and doing better. Might as well see how it goes instead of selling cheap. Much more important to get a return for pending UFAs than Petey.

I think that as Blobcat wisely says, cap space matters in a rebuild, it allows you to weaponize it to take on bad contracts which forces teams to pay a premium.Ronning's Ghost wrote: ↑Mon Dec 22, 2025 6:36 pm [from Skyo's thread]

If Petey can be pumped and dumped without retention, but with a lesser pick/player return, then the value of that is found in the cap savings that can then be turned around to take on a similarly overpaid player with LESS term in exchange for a prospect or pick.....so selling low is a matter of perspective here.

Re: The Petey Predicament
With the trading of centre Danault and Kopitar hanging it up at the end of the season. L.A. will have the thinnest centre depth in the league with no good centres in the pipeline. Byfield obviously moves back to centre from right wing since Turcotte and Helenius is all they got there. There is talk of moving Laferiere to centre, that shows you how desperate they will be. I’m telling ya, Petey to L.A. is real as fuck. His wife lives there. With Danault and Kopitars contracts off the books they can do it. Ask for Greentree and the 2026 1st rd pick. Kenny will getterdun. Are there any centres hitting the UFA market in July that will satisfy Kenny’s problem down the middle? I think the list is Jenner, Schmaltz, Malkin, Lowry, Pageau, Coyle, Hayes, Lee, Wennberg, Dickinson, Haula, Kerfoot, Laughton, Henrique, Scissons. Heinen, Janrock, Giroux, Acciari, Lafferty, Poehling, Blueger.
Hey Trump, I’m ANTIFA.

Not a great list - unless you want an aging star. EP40 would be able to build his 'brand' down there.
I'm not in favour of dumping him - but if we can get a decent package of youth and picks, then we should be pretty much done with the rebuild. It just becomes a waiting game.

Re: The Petey Predicament
Unless LA has decided to not try to seriously replace Kopitar & Danault and tank for the at least the next few seasons, this makes too much sense.
Looking at the 2026 UFA list and EP goes right to the very top and immediately ups his value if he was made available. We wouldn't be dumping him and should be able to get back a decent package.

A Cali team is the destination that makes the most sense when it comes to the possibility of him waiving his NTC.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 7:56 am Unless LA has decided to not try to seriously replace Kopitar & Danault and tank for the at least the next few seasons, this makes too much sense.

Utah, Seattle, and Dallas, might give him reason to consider.
I would wager that NYI would be something both he and his new influencer bride would discuss as well. The Big Apple is after all the seat of influence.
