2026 World Juniors Tourney
Good number of reasons to watch.
Cootes.
Top level draft eligible(s) - McKenna, Stenberg et al - although it appears Verhoeff, due to age factors, will be a bit player unfortunately.
Canadians are ready apparently....

Not sure how many games I'll have access to down here, but it should be a great tournament

Re: 2026 World Juniors Tourney
McKenna had a really tough night.
I already read a few comments that criticized the people in-charge putting together this team. That USA has already won the gold. That Stenberg is definitely now the #1 overall, etc.
Tough crowd casting stones for a narrow defeat in a pre-tourney game. Team Canada fans' expectations are constantly bordering between ridiculous and delusional.
At the end of the day, we got some really good kids who will have good NHL careers... and they're just kids.
The tourney hasn't even started yet. Like, they might actually win this.

I like that Sweden and Canada chose to play two pre-tournament games against each other. Both games pretty even.
Canada won the first 2-1 and Sweden the second 4-2. Looking forward to the tournament!
Björklöven doesn’t have any players on the Swedish team this year. I thought both Ihs-Wozniak and Sjöström would get a look, but they got passed over. Both are just 18, so they’ll have another shot at it next year. Ihs-Wozniak is weirdly born in Adelaide.
We do have a player on the Latvian team though, Bruno Osmanis. He was their best player last year, but left the tournament early due to injury; a blade of a hockey stick under the vizor that hit his left eye. He didn’t get drafted this summer, probably due to concerns about that injury, but he has recovered well. He is one of our best players on our U20 team with 12 points (6+6) in 9 games and fares well when given minutes on the men’s team as well; 9 points (4+5) in 19 games with limited time on the fourth line is pretty awesome for a kid his age.
In the three pre-tournament games Latvia has played he has three goals and five assists. I think he is the star on that team.

Re: 2026 World Juniors Tourney
Took in both games against Sweden, its still early but man I don’t like what I’m seeing of this group, hope they can prove me wrong. Zero cohesion, not sharp, can’t make a pass or receive one. Very sloppy. Nobody knows what the other guy is doing, is this coaching or just a bunch of dingbats.
Zayne Parekh? OK its early yes but so far? He sucks. Super nonchalant loosey goosey, he makes as many dumb mistakes as he does good one’s.
McKenna? Ok between those two pre tournament games and last year’s tournament I’m not seeing this so-called special player. He looks like Trevor Zegras at best, so far. He is definitely no Celebrini or Berard. He doesn’t drive the play and barely holds on to the puck, always looking to get rid of it fast as he gets it to another teammate, and he’s a massive turnover machine, both him and Parekh.
Really like what I see from this Carson Carels D-man. He’s gonna be a player.
I don’t think Hunter has the balls but Parekh needs to sit for Verhoeff. Parekh’s sloppy play is setting a bad tone for the group. Bring in Carter Bear for anybody.
Stenberg definitely looks like he will be a really good pro, both him and Frondell wreak of looking like good NHL’ers. I’m taking Stenberg ahead of McKenna. I’m really not sure where McKenna deserves to go to be honest, he’s a wild card for sure but judging by his work of late I’m not even sure he goes top 5.

Don't we see/hear this at the start of each of these tournaments? I'll wait until the first real game and see if they've gelled and woken up.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Sun Dec 21, 2025 8:38 am Took in both games against Sweden, its still early but man I don’t like what I’m seeing of this group, hope they can prove me wrong. Re: 2026 World Juniors Tourney
I’ll wait too, but those two games were not flattering for Team Canada that’s for sure. They have to improve their “team game” and systems greatly if they plan on going far into the medal rounds. We’ll see if Hunter can get these dingbats on the same page. Too many individuals out there. Would like to see McKenna slow the play down with his skill set, I worry about his IQ, his ability to put himself in positions to excel, he can’t seem to separate himself from the pack. He’s too quick to get rid of the puck when he gets it. It’s worrisome how many turnovers both him and Parekh are guilty for. These two are supposed to be the most skilled players on the team.Cornuck wrote: ↑Sun Dec 21, 2025 8:43 amDon't we see/hear this at the start of each of these tournaments? Re: 2026 World Juniors Tourney
Cootes looks like a solid player, he works hard. Doesn’t necessarily stand out skill wise. Looks like he’ll be a good energy player, a two way centre.donlever wrote: ↑Sun Dec 21, 2025 9:05 amThanks for the scouting report Dude.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Sun Dec 21, 2025 8:38 am Took in both games against Sweden, its still early but man I don’t like what I’m seeing of this group, hope they can prove me wrong.

Re: 2026 World Juniors Tourney
Sounds like he would be a very good 3rd line center. But some pundits prior to the draft had Horvat as 3C ceiling due to his skating.
They were wrong and I could be about Cootes.
