This is about an Irish woman who came to the USA 47 years ago at age 11. She is a green card holder, working and paying taxes, married to a US veteran and has a son who is a US marine. Both she and her husband are conservatives and naively voted for trump.

She has been held at a detention centre for four months and may be deported to Ireland.

Her crime? Two bad cheques more than a decade ago, that she later paid in full.

How can you be arrested for a misdemeanor that happened twenty years ago?
How could someone who has lived their whole adult life in the USA, is married to and the mother of US citizens and troops to boot, be threatened with deportation over something like that, while the sitting President is a convicted felon who has committed far worse crimes and not facing any consequences over that? Where is the justice?

Also bear in mind that the President ’s wife, Melania, did modelling work while being in the USA on a tourist visa, which is a crime against immigration laws. She later failed to report this when applying for a green card, which is yet another crime.

If they want to deport illegal immigrants who have violated US law, Melania Trump should be a far higher priority than Donna Hughes-Brown. I think you could also factor in that she is married to a convicted felon and draft dodger whereas Donna Hughes-Brown is married to a US veteran who served his country with honour.

Gestapo didn’t do mass murdering. They were a branch of the police who rounded up people (originally mostly union organizers, communists and socialists, later also based on race and sexual orientation) and put them in concentration camps, which I guess you can also refer to as detention centres. The main difference against the normal judiciary system is that there is no trial.

The concentration camps were run by the SS, a completely separate entity, and even though they started putting people in camps in 1933, the mass murder part didn’t start till 1942. For the first nine years they only served as detention centres or work camps. Anyway, the SS are the ones carrying out the mass murders that later happened.

But of course some people died even before the executions began, as disease spread in the crowded camps and they did not always get the medical attention they needed.

For the current camps in the USA the death toll in 2025 is at least 25 people and counting.

I have great hopes for the mid terms though, and also that more traditional conservatives within the GOP will start to question the legality and morality of what is going on. Perhaps start asking for habeas corpus laws to be respected.

Except that citizens are getting caught up in the 'raids' - it's an overly heavy-handed response to invoke fear, and not just deport the 'worst of the worst'. When they're arresting people who are going to their legally appointed court hearings, pulling them out of the lineup just before taking an oath of citizenship, you know they're just grabbing anyone they can to meet Steve Miller's imposed "3000 a day" quota.

It's a fucking nightmare. It's bullshit. There's a right way, and a wrong way to do anything - and in this case, I can't imagine a worse way.
