That's crazy. Paracetamols are most likely the least problematic painkiller for a pregnant woman, but it is tough on the liver, which is why you should never take paracetamols when you have been drinking alcohol, and you should never ever overdose it.

Acetylsalisylic acid (eg Aspirin) increases the risk of bleeding, so can be problematic if you have ulcers. On the other hand, their bloodthinning effect can be good for people with heart problems. But there are better drugs for that.
Ibuprofens are the best anti-inflammatory painkillers, but can cause stomach problems so they are not great if you have IBS, and do strain your kidneys a bit. So don't take too much.

And stay away from the morphin ones at any cost, unless you are recovering from major surgery, and even then you should be really careful.

The risk in accidentally overdosing Tylenol is actually low. 7500-10000 mg is the minimum toxic single dose via ingestion. The highest concentration in a single tab that is available over the counter is 500mg. Regular strength is 300mg. That's a rather large handful of pills to OD. The recommended safe max per 24 hours is 6000mg.

Even prolonged use of 4000mg per day has not been shown to cause lasting injury to the liver.....secondary liver diseases can obviously make one more susceptible and therefore that would not be safe, but for an otherwise healthy liver (not Blob's obviously) it is benign.

In regards to intentional overdoses, in my career I have only picked up a single patient who tried to cook their liver off with Tylenol and didn't make it. I've brought in plenty who have exceeded the 10000mg dose and survived. Mucomyst is a life saver when used quickly enough.

I think the risk may be rising as our society's general tolerance for discomfort plummets down below "Ultra-Muffin" level to "Professional Soccer Player" status. At that point people will start taking whatever they can to deal with even the most minor of discomfort.
