Might be Teenage Mutant Ninja Hertle being moved out of Vegas to clear cap space if they sign Marner. He’s been playing 2C in Vegas and would be the best name I’ve heard if the Canucks could get him - less than 6m a year as the Sharks are retaining his salary.
He'd be a good band-aid solution who could be had relatively cheap if Vegas needs to move salary.
That would make a Silovs for Luchanko trade a better fit with Hertl filling in until Luchanko is ready for the bigs.
According to Friedman’s reporting on Sunday’s 32 Thoughts podcast, there is talk that if Marner signs in Vegas without a rights trade, “the Maple leaves will go after Vegas for tampering.”
Friedman makes it clear that he has no proof that Vegas is guilty of tampering, “but if they make a deal with Toronto and send a good player to Toronto, I’m betting that any chance the Maple leaves file for tampering goes away.”
Sounds like blackmail/extortion to me.
"Give us a nice asset or two or we will charge you with tampering."
Tell them to go fuck themselves McCrimmon, then sign Marner on July 1.

I'd tell them to go fuck themselves regardless, because it's Toronto. If Friedman, as much a Toronto-shill as anybody in the T.O. media market, is saying he doesn't see any proof of tampering I'll have a hard time believing the leaves have much of a case.
Just saw Alex Pietrangelo is going to miss the season (and miraculously return for the playoffs). So much for clearing cap space to sign Marner and making Hertle available. They’ll have plenty of space now.

The Nuge is in that Brenden Morrison category. Overpaid , overhyped but fair…good enough…middle of the road.

For Demko, RNH isn’t the return I’d be looking for - I agree he’s overhyped.
Send him back east to CBJ for a centre.
Yah, true dat. Early in his career, I thought RNH was going to be Joe Sakic type, but he's more of a 2nd line B.Mo type. Still it better than nothing and better than what we have now. If CJB would offer one of their younger Cs for Demmer, it would be nice. Just with Demmer's injury history, not sure CBJ would be jumping at the bit to offer that. We shall see.

Looks like Manny will be safe for now.
Cool, dodged a bullet for now. I thought Coach Manny was a goner for sure, really don't want to lose him.

Even Pietroangelo is LTIR'ed for the season I think they have to clear a little space for Marner. The Hague for Scissons/Lauzon trade makes their cap space more definite (they were going to otherwise sign Hague for more, but it wasn't listed). Puckpedia shows $2.1M remaining -- Pietrangelo makes up $8.8M of that. It isn't that you exceed the cap by the player's salary; it is the player's salary minus cap space, so they have to get cap compliant as if Pietroangelo doesn't exist. So they have $10.9M at the moment to sign Marner -- I suspect that's not enough unless Marner really wants to be there and would leave money on the table. He will definitely get offers over 11M; I wouldn't be surprised to see 12.5 or 13M offered. Heck, with all the teams with cap space, it might be even more. But if its not, Vegas can do this by moving Roy ($3M) or Howden ($2.5) or Kolesar ($2.5).
Leaves acquire Macelli from the Mammoth for a 2027 conditional 3rd. Not sure what the condition is yet.
Macelli is 24; considered to be a playmaker, but is pretty soft and is not that good defensively -- whether its a liability as opposed to not an asset, I am not sure. Still, he had 49 points in 64 games in his first full season, which coincided with the end of his ELC. He signed for 3/$3.425 AAV. Then 2 years ago, he put up similar stats -- 57 points in 82 games.
Last year, though, turned into a pumpkin -- 8G, 10A, 18 Pts.
My mind went immediately to Hoglander, who is a couple months younger (though with more NHL time). Undersized forward who flashed numbers good enough for a second line (and to sign a decent RFA deal), only to disappear last year. To be sure, they are quite different -- Hoglander has more jam and badger and less playmaking/vision, but in many regards they provide a similar value. Hoglander's floor is probably higher since his skillset translates better to bottom 6 play if he producing, but Macelli's upside is probably greater if he is producing.
Its probably not a terrible move for the Leaves; there's only one season so if Macelli doesn't return to his previous play, they cut their losses and don't qualify. But if he can manage to play well with their skilled guys, there could be a big bounce back for the kid. I imagine they are hoping he can do the things offensively they thought Domi might. And hopefully not be the thing defensively (train wreck!) that Domi is.
