He likes hockey? He likes to compete.... but he's a clown to you. Does he amuse you?

Zegras traded to Philly:
Pierre LeBrun
@PierreVLeBrun

Ducks will get Poehling, pick 45 overall this year and 4th Rd pick in 2026 in return for Zegras

I wonder if he'll move his feet more for Tick Rocket?

That's not a bad price to pay, because it could turn out well (top 6 player), but if it doesn't, these are not core future assets.

Zegras once had a lot of promise. Perhaps he retains some of that -- I don't know how much of his problems relate to chronic physical issues -- there have been injuries, but there also seems to be a between-the-ears issue. But that's all why the price is a plug, a 2d, and a 4th.

There's also total bust potential here -- either poor injury recovery or a guy that Tochett won't play or will bury if he continues his BS, but it is only a one year commitment, then RFA.

There's much that is wrong with Zegras, and he isn't a guy I would have targetted, but at that price, with the Canucks' needs, and with the Canucks in a position to have to roll doubles to be more than playoff bubbly, I wouldn't have minded this move.

That Zegras went so cheap has already had some complain about Vancouver management's failure to get in on the deal, thinking Zegras is going to be an upgrade at 2C. I'm not unhappy that management apparently passed on the opportunity. The kid seems like a high-talent/low-character player.

It'll be fun to watch the Tocchet-Zegras dynamic moving forward. Watch, he'll turn the kid around and his performance takes off.

Agreed, glad they passed on Zegras - and also agree him and Toc will be must see TV towards the end of the year as Philly struggles to maintain their defensive structure.

Didn't he already run a similar player out of town? Seems to be a disconnect between GM & Coach there...

He’s a high maintenance player on and off the ice. I think his presence was one of the driving forces that forced Getzlaf into retirement. Not what our room needs right now. Like throwing gasoline on the fire. But hey, if you want The Michigan, different story.

Getzlaf was 38, had played a hard game for his entire career, his production was dropping off, and after the Ducks had moved on from long-time teammates like Perry, I think he just decided to pull the pin.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

More like it. That said, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to take him on unless they were confident the room could absorb his personality. Tocchet will likely have work enough dealing with him, but then he dealt with Petey and JT. Not sure if that’s a point in his favour, though, given how that ended up. :lol:
