Re: 2025 NHL Draft Class
Really hate to give up yet another 1st rounder but just cannot see how we can do anything else.
Willander, I don't want to see a repeat of Forsling in giving up potentially something great before he even puts on a Nucks sweater.
D.Petey, small sample size but already see way too much all around potential to lose.
Mancini, I'm enjoying the hell out of his swashbuckling game out in Abby right now. The tools are there, hate to give it up before seeing how it can progress in the bigs.
They all have size and wheels to form a big mobile D for years. But the most underrated argument I would use in not parting with any of them is cap value. Can potentially have half our blueline all for under $1m for next two years to help offset the OEL penalty. This reason alone I wouldn't touch them.
This leaves the 1st rounder. Ugghh, hate to do it again but what else can we do? Unless we talk pissing off Hughes and look at Hronek??

Chef likes his draft picks, I wish this new regime would stop with their obsession with trading them, it’s getting us nowhere fast.

Re: 2025 NHL Draft Class
Lets get back to the draft instead of whining about trading picks.
Martin, Atcheson, Reschny, Bear or Carbonneau are all good for me. Lets talk about the actual players who have potential to be drafted instead of crying about whether they deal the pick. Take that shit somewhere else.in my heart of hearts I hope the kids they pick have some sandpaper and were born in this country.
Doc may be on to something regarding dealing down and maybe getting another 2nd. They need more everything.

Re: 2025 NHL Draft Class
Would love nothing better than to spend time, energy and hope speculating about these kids if there wasn't the very real possibility that none of them will be here. But... who knows, maybe this year I'll be pleasantly surprised and actually see a jersey handed out at the podium again (been a while).
You're right tho, this thread's about the draft so by all means let's talk about the kids. Admittedly haven't taken a serious look given the uncertainty surrounding the 15th, so I'm here to get some low-down. All I know is should we actually make a selection, I do hope it's BPA, and yes it would be very nice if it is someone who will don a Canadian jersey come Christmas. I am so sick of watching the WJC every year without any of our hopefuls on the home team. Mynio was a nice start last year. Let's see some more.

Trade the pick. I’ll be in an old age home with dentures by the time this pick comes around unless they end up being the next Jordan Schroeder or Hunter Shinkaruk or Brendan Gaunce and don’t come around at all.

Re: 2025 NHL Draft Class
This draft is not being talked about for its depth of quality. Outside of the top 5-6, it appears there's not a lot of separation between the next 10-15 prospects. If Vancouver's scouting staff doesn't see much separation between #15 and #45 on their board, and if there are multiple players ranked in the 2nd round that that really like, I can see them doing it. It's not like there's someone available at 15 who would go #5 or higher in another draft.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 11:32 pm Doc may be on to something regarding dealing down and maybe getting another 2nd. This looks to me like a draft where teams will get valuable middle-6 forwards and mid-pairing Dmen, with only a few diamonds in there will blossom into franchise players.

We don't know yet if Lekkerimaki and Willander are going to pan out, but seems so far so good by all accounts. Add D.Petey, Mynio, Krudyavtsev, Brzustewicz and when it comes to drafting it appears this regime is a step well beyond the misfires of the past. Of course that remains to be seen. The irony is the better drafting regime loves to trade picks away. Three first rounders now with a fourth in question.
They need to keep it. They need more draft successes. Preferably at forward. Preferably center, preferably Canadian. Honestly I'll take any draft win no matter how long it takes for them to pan out. Because, let's face it, by that time we will be well into our next rebuild anyway.

Re: 2025 NHL Draft Class
Pickford should be a no brainer if he's there with the 2nd rounder. Kid can flat out play. Sure he's a 2006 birth year but he is a stud for the Tigers.
As an asside Oasiz Weisblatt would have been a great signing. Just a pain in the ass out there. Wake up amateur scouts.

Is Cayden Lindstrom worth looking into trying to swing a deal with the CBJ’s for?Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Mon May 26, 2025 6:06 pmSomeone should watch the games. Re: 2025 NHL Draft Class
Their drafting hasn't been that bad. It's the development that sucked, they'd either trade them away too early or miscast them too soon. They seem to have things coming together in Abby now. They just need to continue on their current path, minus the trading away 1sts.Nuckertuzzi wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 1:36 pmChef Boi RD wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 5:50 am Trade the pick. It will probably take several highend picks before they land the necessary top 6 forwards they need.
Hughes will be long gone and Chef will be filling diapers at Casa serena.
We'll burn that bridge when we get to it

Re: 2025 NHL Draft Class
They have to this year. They get one more chance to ice a competitive team or QH43 packs up his shit and leaves.
They need to bank on the pipe cleaner and the old bastards ability to fleece their enemies out of a top line player.
If they strike out this time they will be forced into a full rebuild I reckon
