Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
As disappointed as I am that Boeser was neither re-signed at a deal that makes sense or traded, I am more disappointed that we we not able to weaponize our cap space, even for low picks. I get the whole idea that Boeser means more to us to making the playoffs than any return would (which I still think is the wrong approach). Again, I like what Boston did. Sure maybe all they get in the end for Marchand is a 2nd round pick, which I doubt because I think he will play at least 50% of their playoff games, but at least they get something and they realize this isn't their year. And some have speculated that he has a contract offer waiting for him in Boston come July 1st.
Now this year was a little trickier to weaponize cap space because a lot of players that moved still had term after this year.
But had Allvin made the Miller deal and the Pettersson deal on Friday we would all be saying he had a very good trade deadline day. We would have been none the happier at losing JT but we would still sit back and say ok, he got us a top 4 left D and a young R D with potential. He got us a speedy winger with some grit and a decent centre. He moved out pieces that were not working saving us cap next year as well. It is easy to forget that we need to look at the full body of work.
Carolina were the losers to me. They should have taken Pettersson or Miller instead of Rantenan although they do get a decent young centre and a couple of 1sts and 3rds. Oh and they still have Taylor Hall. But they recognized that they needed to move him or have the same situation as they had last year. Giving up a boatload only to see it walk come July 1st.

Allegedly...
....your, Megs and Cuz's leaves had a deal on the table for Rantanen and had a bigger contract agreed to with his agent (13 milly per) than what he got with Dallas.
The socialz story goes that the 'Canes figured they might play the leaves in the post season and the threat of seeing Matthews/Rantanen on the opposite side of the rink was less than palatable.

One thing I’ve like is management’s moves to free up cap for next season. They look set on D for next season, and they’ll probably go with the same goalies. So they’ll be able to add some significant forwards because management was able to move on from Heinen 2.25m, Deharnais 2m, and Soucy 3.25m add that to the cap their UFAs (Boeser 6.65m, Suter1.6m and Forbort 1.5m) may not take up and they should get a significant name or two - maybe Bennett, but Florida will likely find a way to re-sign him.

Remember OEL is up to near 5 next season as well Cherry.
To lazy to look up but a bit more than double current hit.

Next year and the one after OEL’s cap hit will be about 4.7 mil per season.
Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
Other than Bennett, what forwards do you think they could add? Free agency isn't exactly going to be a boatload of talent, and, as we all know, July is when you overpay the most.Picker of Cherries wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 2:24 pm One thing I’ve like is management’s moves to free up cap for next season. No problem. Their defence budget is compensating for OEL with ELCs for Mancini, D-Petey, and Willander for the next few years.

It's definitely improved. Even if they have made some blunders. Need Paolo in there the other brother. Fredo needs to go.
WHo was chirping StinkOven calling him an ok young player?? He is far better than any Canuck player/pick/prospect 22 and under. It's not close. He's 5 ft 8 170 at 22. He will be a hybrid of Point and Gourde. Lots of Cirelli/Hagal mixed in. Hurticanes scored a gem.
How ya doing Danila?
Roght in his home province and once again management going back to Pat shits the bed.
