If it's Mercer replacing Miller it's a massive step back though. He's a 3rd line winger on a strong team right now. He's plateau'd as a depth piece.

If it was Hirschier no problem but there's no way in hell they do that one.

What else is out there? Lafrenyay? That shrimp in Columbus?

Miller is fresh off a dominant season but can't get his coconut in order. Find a coconut whisperer then FFS
Mercer can play centre, but yeah it is a big step back but if you can land Silayev as well?

Sorry, but Miller ain’t waiving for that shit show in Buffalo, regarding Cozens and Byram

Again...as I've said already....potential EP stepping his game up (to Datsuykian status - sic) minus Miller creates positive ROI so Mercer is NOT necessarily a massive step back if 40 gets his head out of ass as a result.

Plus with the added benefit of a 2nd overall rs D to improve puck movement that adds to the net gain.

1 step back....2 steps forward.

Scouting reports are severely downgrading Simon Nemec. Seems to be turning out to be a bust.

From the article you linked...

Which is surprising since Nemec was incredible last season. He came up to the NHL in December 2023 after Dougie Hamilton's pectoral injury. Of the players who played at least 600 minutes last season, Nemec was the only one to be on the ice for more goals for than goals against at 5v5. The Devils have him 17 minutes a night, throwing him right to the fire as the rest of the defense was a mess. The Devils were dealing with a dreadful system that was implemented to make up for the losses of Damon Severson and Ryan Graves. It was made even worse with Hamilton’s injury, but Nemec did his best to make up for the loss.

Some Devils fans are calling for Nemec to be traded for help right now. It’s a mistake. If this truly is Nemec’s value, it’s crazy to even consider a trade. The Devils are starting to see the best of Nemec again. He’s providing offense and has gone back to his two-way game. An offseason shoulder injury probably had a bigger impact on him that anyone wants to admit. Let’s not overreact to what the Devils have here.

...sounds like he was just fine last year thus a change of scenery may be required to fulfill potential.

Downgraded by scouts?

Great.

Buy low then.

Mercer, Nemec and a 1st is what I want now.

Chef Boi RD wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 1:50 pm This group has gone through two coaches whose approach to coaching are polar opposite’s. Boudreau leaves ths guys alone, let’s them run loose, doesn’t over coach, etc. Tocchet is overbearing, hammers the guys over the details of the game, so the players play tight but if they follow the system success csn be had.

I do think both have their faults. Coaches like Tocchet can be quite successful early but there is the danger of players getting tired of and to eventually tuning them out.

I do wonder how much of this recent disheveled shitty play has to do with Tocchet’s overbearing coaching style. Are the players tuning him out?
As far as I'm concerned you shop around for a proven coach that can push the right buttons. Tocchet just looks defeated and out of answers.

It's a shame as he was what they needed but if he's pissing off the stars to the point they're pouting of checking out it's the one move the management can make that could potentially turn the ship around. Look at the coilers after the transvestite was ditched
Both of these guys are on their 3rd coach here in Vancouver.

While I don't think Green has the chops to be a very good NHL coach, Boudreau is more than proven, and Tocchet, despite being an excellent player, does not have the best record having only made the playoffs in 2 of 8 seasons as a head coach.

Tocchet was great for Miller when he came in. Miller has been the offensive engine of this team since he arrived in Vancouver, but his efforts were up and down. Tocchet showed up and JT turned around on a dime, a couple months later Boeser was all-in for off-season training, and the team came out flying. The reverse was true for Pettersson.

Read a comment on an article discussing the potential of a Miller deal being imminent.....

I dont think its Miller who is the cause. I think Miller is the symptom. Pettersson is the cause and needs to be moved for a young center who also needs a fresh start.

I mean, it's possible. I don't know what to think anymore. As everyone know, I've hated Pettersson's attitude since he showed up.

Because of the uncertainty I think you have to move them both.

@ Mëds.

Tough criticism of Tocchet man.

Year 1 AZ zero expectations for playoffs.

Year 2 turned into a plus .500 team

Year 3 over .500 playoffs

Year 4 2 games under .500 56 games in and fired...called it no playoffs but he didn't coach the full year

Year 5 took over Canucks not his fault no playoffs

Last year playoffs Year 6

This year (7) not over.

So 7 seasons not 8 of which 5 were full seasons and I is ongoing.

So post season 2 out of 4 full seasons coached one of which, year 2 in AZ, was deemed succesful due to a plus 10 win improvement.

February 3rd, 2024 All-Star Game - this core peaked.
Four days earlier, January 31st, 2024 fun loving Kuzmenko traded to Calgary.
Team chemistry has gone to shit ever since.
Coincidence?
I think not.

Interesting hypothesis PoC.

Affirms we have a room full replete with Petunias if so.

You missed the 2 seasons in Tampa. 66 games in year 1, 82 in year 2. No playoffs. But I digress.....

My criticism wasn't anything more than an observation of his record. I'm fully aware that he was saddled with AZ. I should have tagged on that "the jury is out" for me on Tocchet at this point.

I think he did an excellent job in his first season and a half here. This year has gone off the rails.....and my reply to Cuz was actually meant to imply that I'm not convinced a coaching change is the answer.

O note on RT.....when Tocchet came in it appears that he targeted Miller and Boeser down the stretch and into the off-season. Those guys bought-in and the rest of the team followed suit. Hughes was named Captain, and the rumour was that it was between him, JT, and EP. I think Hughes is the best player we've ever seen in the collage that is Canuck colours, but I also think the C was awarded to try and sell him on staying long-term. Miller comes in this year and something is out of sorts, suddenly the entire team is off the rails. Tocchet was a savvy enough coach (and former player) that he knew who the guys would follow, and it sure wasn't Pettersson.

Kuzmenko was Pettersson's winger. Petey hit the skids at the same time and has struggled ever since.

I don't think it is a room full of petunias. I think it's a particularly sour petunia who management then went ahead and gave 11.6 sheets to despite his unpalatable aroma.

Management has now directed that this expensive petunia be coddled.

How is that shit gonna sit in a room full of competitive alphas?
