After watching the past couple games I think the primary reason I have for wanting to trade Pettersson is because of how much we are going to have to pay Hughes in a few years. The team is night and day different when he is on the ice.
I read a comment (and yes it was highly likely to be fan biased) last night after the game that was putting Hughes in the conversation of best player in the league, and also a reference to a pre-season prediction by one of the pundits that nodded to Hughes for the Hart this year.
Right now if Pettersson is retained at $11.6M there is no way that Hughes is getting paid less than $14M in three years time. Even with the increasing salary cap I think it's ridiculous to carry both of those contracts unless Pettersson is driving play up front and carrying a line at a 110 point pace.
no need to worry about paying Hughes, because without a 1C we are pretenders, not contenders, and Hughes walks to play with his brothers.
Trading Petey at his absolute lowest value does not return a 1C.

I don't see us winning this year or next.
Trading Pettersson for a return like Fantilli (only an example) is a gamble, but one that may pay off in 2 years time when the returning player is hitting 22 years of age and hopefully ready to step into a top line role as JT hits the age where he will likely be dropping off with Father Time into a 2nd line C.
Either that or you try to blow New Jersey's doors off and offer them Pettersson and a 1st for Jack Hughes.....pretty well guarantees you keep Quinn.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..
Pettersson isn’t going anywhere. He just needs to see a Mind Doctor. Get to the brass tacks of what’s not ticking inside his head. Growing pains of a young man.

He just needs time. He looks like a guy getting over a knee or high ankle sprain. Guys usually take half a season to recover , and another half season to get back into the groove. Peter has a similar hesitantcy in his game although he is starting to make ankle breaking moves again.
Is there any desire amongst those here to bring in Quinn Hughes’ idol and 3 time champ Kris Letang to man the second pairing? Sure his contract is a little long, but if Pittsburgh retains…
Hogshit/Deshernais +2nd
Health has always been an issue, but he brings a lot to a blueline severely lacking puck movement beyond to top pair

Give him his buddy's #28?
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.
