Just Not ready

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

I don't recall seeing anything as politically inept as Singh the past few days.

How about all the rest of his political "career"? It must come close...

Dude is an embarrassment to what the NDP is supposed to represent. Aligning with the fucking liberals and their blatant corruption for years until theyve sunk their chances at reelection then oozing out of the line of fire like a mollusk

The Rolex watches, BMWs and Canada Goose Parkas at 6C are a long ways from Tommy Douglas and the CCF.

The NDP lost many prairie farmers when a Toronto Mayor took the helm and then they tried to be the the surrogate Green Party.

I've told our local NDP MP that the Liberal party finished a very distant third, clearly his constituents didn't want a Liberal Government and he was betraying his constituents supporting the Liberal Government. He is retiring and the vote here is swinging right.

This is an opportune time for the NDP to go a different direction from Jagmeat Singh. He's had his time, soiled the party's image enough.

Get back to representing working folk, farmers, etc and get away from the slimebags who have infiltrated the party and their obvious pursuit of forwarding their own self serving agendas

NDP will hold their safe seat in Manatoba with Conservatives +/- 900 votes behind.

Montreal is another story. The Liberal safe seat previously held by David Lametti is a three horse race between the NDP, the Bloc and the Liberals. Slow counting as the pro rep folks made sure there were 91 candidates on the ballot. Lead swapping back and forth between the NDP and the Bloc.

Infamously Trudeau dumped the local boy Liberal and parachuted in his favoured candidate for the election.

What happens to Trudeau if the Liberals not just lose the seat but finish third? (appears likely). Followed by the expected exit of long time Liberal Quebec Lieutenant Pablo Rodriguez as he heads off to run for the Provincial Liberal Party leadership.

Opening day of the new Parliamentary session today. PP gives Justin a thumbs up as he introduces the winner of the Toronto by election that was thought to be a Liberal safe seat.

Conservatives hammer Freeland as a lame duck ghost finance minister now that Carney has been brought in to advice the Liberal Party.

Conservative Finance critic call Guilbault an orange jumpsuit wearing hand cuff loving liar.

Trudeau was rattled and shouting a lot.

Jaguar Meat was a no show.

Bloc wins in Montreal by 240 votes, Libs 2nd, NDP 600 votes back of the Bloc.

NDP holds in Manitoba by 1200 votes over the Cons. Big story there is the NDP had the same vote % as in 2021, however the Libs share of the vote plummeted from 14% two 4%. That support went to the Conservatives.

Three by elections since the summer recess, Liberals have lost two seats, one each in their strong holds of Toronto and Montreal, NDP held their own in their Mantova fortress.

Trudeau's response to the dismal Liberal by election results, "Canadians need to understand better."

Trudeau in Parliament yesterday, "I spent the summer traveling the country listening to Canadians."

I bet he plays a mean pinball

Wordy, but not a word salad. He's saying that technological innovation is moving so fast nowadays that our ethics are unable to keep up. Not a new thought.

Probably one of the first things I've heard that asshat (Trudeau, not 5th :P) say that I can agree with.

Although I got a kick out of him talking about us doing things without considering the consequences.

When you say "ethics are unable to keep up". Are you meaning that we don't have time to theoretically apply them to the end point prior to deployment of the given innovation?

It's more than about lack of time to apply ethics, it's that we haven't even realised the impact of said technology to understand what our ethics should be, and to enact laws to put guardrails in place.

For example Facebook's algorithm to stimulate people's addictive behaviour, especially in children. We were all happily connecting with our long-lost high school buddies before we realised this was going on.

Or the interaction between social media and free speech. Are social media considered common carriers or not? Nobody anticipated these companies would grow into behemoths and more or less replace mainstream news, or you would have been an investor and be relaxing by the pool like Griz right now.

How much money laundering and child trafficking happened, aided by Bitcoin, before regulations caught up?

How many of us speak to our phones when using Google search or texting, or interacting with Android/Apple Auto. Speech recognition has come a long way and I love it, but for it to work, the system is always listening, waiting for the keywords like "Hey Google". What happens that speech data before the trigger words? Is it discarded or stored somewhere? Interestingly an ad agency has recently offered this data to advertisers for targeting purposes. Is this covered under privacy laws or did we just blindly sign away our rights to prevent its' use when we agreed to the Terms and Conditions?

The latest frontier is, of course, AI. There aren't really any guardrails at all and the first real laws are currently on Gavin Newsome's desk waiting for his signature.

Maybe if these technologies took 30 years to develop, like Trudeau's martial arts master learning to kill with his finger, we'd have thought of these things ahead of time.

As I said above, this regulatory lapse/delay is the same with all new technology and scientific research. Hell back when David Suzuki was transitioning from fruit fly genetics to global eco warrior he wrote a book on this dilemma and how if affects genetic research.

Forget the grandstanding noise and get on with it.
